Matt Moore admits he's not a good practice player

Yeah that's why he was our back up in 2011 and why he is very likley the back up in 2012

“There is a little truth to that,” Moore said. “I’ve been trying to get better year by year in practice, but does it really matter what I do in practice? I’d like to think that what happens in games matters most.”

That was not a smart thing to say. Allen Iverson-like.

I think a lot of professional athletes and competitors in general have this view about themselves. As a coach we definately are focused on what we call 5 o'clock hitters. A lot of players don't perform in practice and turn into studs on the field. A lot of them are quite the opposite. It is important as a coach to determine what players fall into which category.

I firmly believe in the saying "You play like you practice." The game is won with preparation.

A lot of this is very dependant on the "in the zone" mentality. Certain minds thrive on pressure and others do not. I would say that 90 percent of the stars in professional sports have some sort of switch that relates to the intensity of the situation. The key here is still being able to prepare yourself and others around you in practice. Practice tends to be more learn than react. Many coaches have gotten away from this and want their players to be in constant react mode so that when gametime roles around they can just play without thought and let their abilities take over.

From my previous post. I really have seen too many superstars (relatively speaking) in practice melt when the lights are turned on to believe this. However, that does not negate the importance of hard work ect. I just am not 100% behind the results that practice provides.

Wow. Completely unwarranted cheap-shot. Over-the-top IMHO. And I LIKE reading CK's opinions mostly. lol

Care to explain how it was an "unwarranted cheap-shot"?

He essentially just said the exact same thing Iverson did in the infamous "we talkin' 'bout practice" rant.

A poor practice player at the QB position requires a distinct intangible advantage that exceeds his inability to master details the way a guy like Tim Tebow or Doug Flutie has. It's rare.

If you can't demonstrate consistency, then you must make up for it with off the charts leadership qualities and instincts.

Obviously a combination of both is ideal, but one is as good as the other as long as you're a worker. Poor practice habits and a poor practicer aren't the same thing. The former is what a coach won't tolerate.

Except Moore was the top NFL passer in preseason last year and had a very solid season. Even Sparano said about him that he wasn't a good practice player.

Please note that he never said he didn't care about practice.
