sorry PLEXGOD, but i have to repsectfully disagree, and i hope you will study my points below and go back and watch with unbiased eyes and if you disagree after watching each one again, CAREFULLY, the full play end to end, fine. but pleaase be deatailed in your response andn tell us what he SHOULD hve done [even though the play were td's or completions. i am COMPLETELY unbiased as far as miami players, i dont care what the name on the jersey is, what school they came from, other team, etc... proof is in the pudding and moore seems to have some pretty good looking "pudding"!!
here is my scouting report of the highlight video:
1st pass: he launched a nice pass BEFORE the wr made his break, something henne CAN NOT DO and it is maybe the worst thing about his game. went for a score, something henne RARELY does in the red. usually a pick. and, guys were right in his face, bull rush up the middle with inches from moore's grill and he still made the play. what was not amazing about that?
2nd pass: again, it appears he he let lose BEFORE the wr broke free, anticipation throw, henne cant do that. his set up is extremely fast and didnt step into that throw. that takes a very strong arm to do that. you dont always have to use your big gun to make the play, many time that causes a drop or and over throw. he made the correct throw with the correct velocity. nothing sucky there!
3rd pass: this may have been his best highlight. side steps the oncoming rusher coming around the corner, gets back into the direction his wr is going at the BACK of the endzone and throws a strike! you may have mistaken an underthrow for a skilled pass. that is exactly how you execute that pass, throw it so whenthe wr turns to look back [as he should, to not only see the ball coming but to also see his defender and make a defensive move should the pass get shorted] and matt knew this and touched it over the defender right into his wrs hands, all while moving to his right. henne couldnt pull that off in a cuzillion light years!! that to was pretty damn amazing! what more could he have done? strong arming that pass while the wr was still breaking across the back of the zone [like henne would have done] would have been an incompletion or over throw. it really was a perfect execution! all off play action.
4. once again, gets over to where his wr is, sets up and throws BEFORE the wr makes his break. another anticipation pass that so many qb's cant do [henne] and shortens there nfl life. great play? how would you have changed what he did? perfect velocity, no need to rocket that pass!
5. wow-eeee!! i may have spoken to soon about the best highlight. threw at the perfect time, right were it needed to be, the wr was at top speed and wasnt getting anymore seperation and moore dropped it in between two tightly wrapped defenders. thats the kind of pass that only a special qb can make. this is a manning, brady type play. henne would absolutely have made that a pick or an incompletion. did i say WOW? again off play action where you have to turn back in and make a pin point decision.
6. a routine type of play but executed just as it should. obviously designed for the wr to break into the middle and sit in the hole. rush was surrounding moore and he sowed a pretty damned strong arm getting it there, didnt have to have a big step in ala henne and threw when he saw his wr getting ready to "sit", right in the perfect spot. perfect execution between wr and qb.
7. nice side step in the closing pocket and completes the pass to the wr. pass seemed a touch high, but, if you look again, the db's were closing in, one coming from the back, so if moore throws that ball lower and into the inside shoulder, it has a very good chance of being intercepted or batted down. it was thrown where it would only be caught by the wr or it would have gone out of bounds. smart execution or a busted throw with a lucky catch? looked pretty smart to me after looking at it a couple times.
8. again, full rush, right in his face but finds the open guy, hits him in stride for a great play. whgt more could he have done? the play was made, the wr did nothing spectacular to save some busted throw.
9. a roll out, not standing in a comfy pocket with 16 seconds to throw. sees his wr, waits till he is about to make his break back inside and hits him in the perfect spot. again, what more could he have done? pretty good zip to me on that play also!
10. ok. here we go. the pass that has been the finz nemises for well over 10 years now. the DEEP OUT! feeblers were just about always a pick 6. henne cant seem to hit the right shoulder or guns it to hard and the wr is stretching so hard its incomplete and out of bounds. another big boy throw that seperates the real deal from the posers. no time to step up in the pocket as it was closing fast. shows great arm again and the RIGHT velocity on the pass. still waiting for all these short arm throws you mentioned.
11. ok. that pass to smith was "short". play made, not an int and there was interfearance by a db. who knows, could have been miss comunication, smith MAY have not broken off when he should and kept going past his spot. but ok, so far throwing short is DEFINATELY NOT the norm for moore. we can give him one if was indeed short, right?
12. another text book play and didnt panick seeing the safeties coming up from the back. made the play on the move. deep inside throw with good arm strength. nicely executed.
13. seeing a pattern yet? that hop and that inching up in the pocket and then setting up and launching the pass with NO step in, right into the wr's arms. for every good catch there is a good THROW!! very marino-ish type movement in the pocket. quick feet, fast set up!
14. i was dead set on giving moore a short arm on the play but i went back a couple times and i noticed first that moore actually had time to sit and read downfield. i then followed the camera downfield and the wr didnt continue into the endzone, he had slowed up instead of taking the play and the db's in. moore, having time to survey saw it and threw another pin point strike as he did in pass 5. this is a farve/marino type play. henne would have NEVER thrown that ball and even if he did, it more than likely would have been a pic or bat down. this is the type of confidence i like in my qb's [as long as most of his risky throws are not pics!].
as i said, i was FULLY ready to give him the short arm here. it just appears to be another confident, exellent read play.
15. wow! again, off play action, awsome, quick feet and set up, launches a strike to wr #18. db's zeroing in, no room for error. this again is another pass were he used the correct velocity and threw to the right spot and henne would have absolutely missed or not gone there because of the surrounding db's. good stuff. nothing to logically pic apart there. chains are moving, i like it!!
SO, do we have another derek anderson on our hands or a brett farve gunslinger in the making? i am not real big on excuses but steve smith was injured and admittedly was "off" on his game last year. the panthers are a sucky team and fox lost his job [as sparano should have]. moore himself suffered a couple injuries and lost out due to a paranoid staff on short time.
come on! this kid shows some mad skills and you develope a guy like that! youngsters have some down times and mistakes, but if this were year two or three in the john fox regime, moore is developed and most likely still the starter in carolina.
he is here and he has some real good stuff and loads of confidence. he seems to be charismatic, enthusiastic and he is exited on the field and in the huddle. guys respond to that and it is the traits of real leaders! this sorely lacking from somber faced, trudge along henne.
i can tell you all, right now, that if he stays healthy and sparano and daboll give him a real, honest to god shot at winning the job, he will be the dolphins new qb. if nothing else, i see him on the field by game 6 should henne be unproductive and the pics are piling up.
PERFECTFINZ72: what is it that you see in these highlights that says "suited for backup"? or ZERO CHANCE of unseating henne"? zero chance? the only way i see ZERO is if the staff has NO intent on henne not being the strter, that they are riding him to the end!! there are some absolutely amazing plays by moore in these highlights and nothing shown here says career back up or ZERO chance. i think some of you are seeing what you want to see and are seriously biased for some reason. because he was a panther back up for a time? isnt named orton [who i wanted here] or palmer [who i say is washed up]?
what?
