That's not necessarily true. If we got Leinart, he'd be ready to play his first year. Roethlisberger proved you can be the 3rd QB taken and still be a solid QB in your rookie year. I was hoping Feeley would come around this year, but after being demoted to 3rd string, I guess I'm getting on the draft a QB in 06 bandwagon.

That would require the first pick in the draft and we are NOT the worst team in the NFL!!! You can't tell me Cleveland, SF and Tennesse are going to be better! Also, Rothlisberger is the exception (like Marino in 83) and not the rule. 99.9% of Rookie QB's go through growing pains.

Roethlisberger would not have done what he did with any other team. The team won the games he didnt.

:yeahthat: His numbers were not impressive. The defense won the games for Pitt last season.
Yup, any QB could have won with that team.

Must say I agree. Look at his numbers this preseason, they blow.He is going to have a MAJOR sophomore drought this year, watch.

I dont base my thoughts on preseason. Preseason means nothing when it comes to the starters. Troy Aikman had maybe the worst rating ever in a preseason the year of the first SB. But I agree with you, I think a Sophmore slump is coming.

Everyone needs to relax with all of this Leinart talk. When has anyone seen Leinart deal with massive pressure. He is always throwing the ball to the best athletes on the field with the best athletes on the field blocking for him. Put him behind our sorry line and see how great he looks. Oh back to the subject at hand, Matt Mauck is a bum.

When have we seen him throw under pressure? The last two Rose Bowls?

Our "sorry line" isn't going to be sorry forever.

Hey, I as much as everyone else hopes that our line gets better, but we need a quarterback that can RUN for the time being. I don't think Leinart had that much pressure on him in that last Rose Bowl. They put up 50 something points.

Also, the PAC 10 is very weak. One or two tough games does not prove that Leinart will be the real deal over the course of season. Plus look at his team. They are professionals playing against college kids.

Well you never know...I thought we had a good team going into last year. Well, I didn't think we had the 2nd worst team anyway. But who knows how we'll do, I'm just saying that it does not mean that we have to wait 3 years for a QB. But see you bring up a good point....Roethlisberger and Marino. Those two guys were drafted onto teams that we're already pretty good (Fins were AFC champs the previous year if I remember correctly). I think that our main weakness is O-line, but as far as RB and WR, we are stacked. So bringing in a QB who can be effective, a guy like Chris Leak, and NOT someone who has a lot of raw talent but would need developing in the NFL (Omar Jacobs), I think we could succeed next year, but DEFINITELY in 2 years. It's all a matter of drafting the right guy. I think if we got Alex Smith in the draft that we'd be having a very different outlook on this team right now, not because of his physical abilities, but because he's smart and would be able to be an effective QB for us this year. That's they type of guy we need to get next year.

Yeah, like uh......Tommy Maddox? Why do you think that team had a draft pick high enough to get Roethlisberger?

"Yeah, like uh......."Because Tommy Maddox is 33 and injury prone.

And Roethlisberger was the best play on the board.
