McIntosh Will Have a BIG Effect

I'll throw the word "distraction" in here. Every guy on the OL has an assignment on every play. If some are trying to compensate for one guy, in this case Wade Smith, then they are distracted from what they are supposed to do themselves. Hard to work as a unit when you doubt one of the guys can do his part.

I don't think it really is just as simple as Wade Smith sucking it up and bringing down the rest of the OL. I think it will get better with McIntosh in there, but I have doubts about McKinney and Whitley being able to play at a decent NFL level. The talent, mental or physical, may just not be there.

The great thing is, we will find out real soon how much things improve, if at all, with Wade out. I think coaching, and talent evaluation is a big part of the problem here.

I'm not saying they decide to do this consciously. But when you're mentally and physically fatigued from trying to compensate for such a weak link, it's gotta take its toll after a while..
Its been two games. How weak minded are they?

Good points, and I have these concerns as well. I just haven't heard anybody on ANY NFL team ever say that one of their starting teammates "can't play a lick," nor have I heard them say it about Whitley and McKinney, though I question their abilities too.

And with Smith's history, it makes some sense. The guy had played one of the toughest positions in football for ONE YEAR at a small college before he was drafted. He was really thrown to the wolves last year. Why DW would insist on keeping Fiedler for insurance for Feeley and then NOT keeping Marcus Spriggs for insurance for WADE SMITH (last year), I'll never know.

I just think DW can't acknowledge his mistakes, which is why he's held on to Fiedler for so long, why he held on to Jamar Fletcher for so long,

why he keeps EIGHT linebackers instead of cutting Eddie Moore,
They cut Jenkins. I guess he was No. 8.

As for Moore. What team cuts their 2nd round pick this quickly? Moore was out last year, so basically this is the first chance they have gotten to see him play.

Also. Whos job is he suppose to take? Seau or Greenwood?

shouright said:
and why he chose Wade Smith to start. Remember, DW traded a NUMBER TWO draft pick for the chance to draft Smith in the THIRD ROUND, while most people thought Smith was a 5th or 6th rounder at best.
Actually they traded a No.2 for a blind No. 3. Its not like they made the trade with Smith sitting there. It came a day before the draft.

Hell, Spielman had to GO OUT and get McIntosh in the offseason, or we'd be stuck in the same situation we were in last year -- a line full of bums and nobody on the bench good enough to replace them. And that was because DW was dumb enough to let Marcus Spriggs walk.
Spriggs? Huh? McIntosh was signed to take Todd Wades place. Also you are pumping McIntosh like he is something special.

Remember reading about the mini-camps? The D line was caving the O line in CONSTANTLY. Jason Taylor was eating Wade Smith's lunch every DAY. For the other linemen who were here last year, it had to be a "here we go again..." feeling.

Man the people arguing against this thred need to read the thread opener again.... he's saying they are discouraged! not quitting... i'll be willing to bet that 80% of the writers on this board have never played a down on a real football team... padded up and everything.... when you have players that are not playing, 1. to there best potential or 2. no good at all, especially when its the line, feel helpless and it does demoralize the unit... you become less effective as a player and you mental toughness usually tires out. There is nothing that this line can do to change Wade Smiths playing, so they are helpless... there is absolutely nothing they can do about it... so I agree, BIG TIME, the OLINE was very discouraged.. maybe they played there hearts out but in the back of their minds they knew it would be in vain if Smith was on the feild, yet again
Excuse, and poor one at that.

The whole OL is terrible and its not Wade Smith fault. They are terrible because they have no clue on who to block. That is coaching. How many times did you see a Bengal player go unblocked? Too many for me to count.

Dude, if you're a fan of this team you know DW's decision-making is suspect. I don't have to go out and prove that. And McIntosh may not be "something special," but when you're comparing him to Wade Smith he sure is.

I pay no attention to anything coming out of camp. Its all BS. Derrius Thompson is looking like a stud is my favorite.

To be expected.

Oh damn a PB DE schooling a raw second year tackle. Who would have thought?

And a bum DE did it the other night.

Sure it is. What does this have to do with Moore not playing? Again whos job is he suppose to take?

How do you know? Seen McIntosh play LT? SD had no problem letting him walk.

A lot of this is gonna come down to "wait and see." When you see Lamar Gordon breaking off 10 or more yard runs off the left side, we'll revisit this. Smith gets absolutely NO push in the running game. McIntosh is a mauler.

You mean the guys that was the No. 4 pick of the draft in 2001?
Yeah, the one who hadn't done sh*t till he faced Wade Smith.

Again over blowing McIntoshs ability. While I agree that Smith has disappointed this year and with the fact MCkinney, Whitney are not impressing either. I still say it comes back to coaching.

In your biased opinion. Smith while not great has been a very solid & steady player.

Why want anyone answer me on whos job Moore is suppose to take? Yet people want to bash him for not playing.
