Mel Kiper's dolphins projections rounds 1-3

a S in round 1 would be a horrific move

Yea? I'm pretty sure you thought having the opportunity to grab Thomas from Texas a few years ago would've been horrific also

No. That's absurd. Two totally different teams and situations. Stop trying to cause an argument just because.

I was SCREAMING at the TV to take Earl Thomas with pick 12.

Taking a safety now, with this current team at pick 19, would be dumb.

Ugh, I forgot we had the chance to take him :boohoo:

my dream first three rounds is martin 1st, borland 2nd, Austin Safarian Jenkins 3rd

why is that UK? we dont have anything special at the position and in this pass happy nfl, you have to have a stout, strong, talented secondary across the board [see the seattle seahawks].

i remember when no one wanted earl thomas at #10 a few years back, how did that work out? he sure as hell wasnt worth giving up over a run of the mill odrick.

calvin pryor at #19 is an impact player and an ABSOLUTE NEED!!! so, you have to look at these situations like this UK, lets say you need o-line, a lb and db coming into the draft. and their you sit at whatever spot in the round, #5, # 10, #20, etc... . so their you are, with those needs. what do you do? well, you look at those spots you want to address in the draft. maybe you hoped for a certain o-lineman to be there but he is gone and everyone else left is low second round material. do you reach? do you take a player at that spot who isnt rated even close to that selection? trade down for the same weaker oline talent?

no. you dont.

ok, so now comes lb. theres one or two interesting guys left. the one you really wanted is long gone. and then on the other hand, there is a STUD, INSTANT PLAY MAKING SAFETY, and your team has ONE db that is considered at this point, big talent.

so, whats an arm chair chap gonna do? well, who is the best player left at the 3 needs you want? the 0line is gone, no value left at the spot. a couple good lb prospects, but, there 50-50 types. and there is the safety that has top 5 talent and most think will be a perennial pro bowler. getting the point yet?

you take the best player!! is the safety better than the best lb on the board. is the lb better than the o-linemen left. if all 3 positions have a player worthy of the # 19 spot are there, then what?

you take whoever is the most worthy of the spot, who by most accounts is going to be starting on your team, day one and be their for the next 10-12 years. THAT is who you take.

pryor is every bit worthy of the #19 pic. he wont be there because he is top 8 talent. but if he should fall, that card should be at the podium within 2 seconds. we do not have that TRUE enforcer in the middle. yeah, we brought in delmas but he is a hold your breath and hope he stays healthy type. jones? still only shows flashes. so pryor IS a big need and hopefully that situation, should it arise, wont be earl thomas part two.

If we can sign a quality RT and G in fa (they are there and we have the money) you're scenario would work out perfectly.

Go back and read it again. He said ASSUMING MARTIN IS PICKED AT #17.

In which case he would be gone. And we can't draft him.

I like Kelvin Benjamin

I've been saying this for a bit, he would add a great element to the offense. I just don't know if we have the picks to spend on him when there are other pressing needs on offense. I would be ecstatic if we did though. As for Pryor, dude is a beast, but I don't know about picking up a safety in the first considering our needs. Kiper gets roughly 27% of his picks right, so I don't really value any of these pundits' opinions that much.

I hope you're not one of these bpa guys

Mel is always wrong. Pretty much consider those picks a as certain to not happen.

I was just about to say, I freaking hate this time of year just because we have to listen to these blowhards

Not in the slightest I just feel that with a team full of needs and glaring weaknesses you dont take a bloody safety (where we are supposed to be at least above average -tho personally im not fussed on delmas) in round one.

You really want a db? Fine take a cb where we are lacking in health, talent and experience..... not a safety

A Safety at #19...meh.. maybe in round 4 or 5...Kenny Ladler of Vandy.

I like Mel Kiper ... he was the first true draftnik, well before it was cool. He knows a lot about the players, but he's not great at projecting them to the NFL or to specific teams. While I like the OL guys, I still think we go OL in round 1 and swap out one of those other guys for a different position. I don't see us drafting Pryor though. We have Jones and now Delmas who are both thumper type safeties ... I doubt we draft another. Also, this is a draft hugely deep at CB, and woefully thin at S, so the two top S's will likely be overdrafted. I'd much rather skip S in this draft an concentrate on the positions where we get the best value, like OL, WR and CB. Talent and depth galore.
