Mel Kiper's dolphins projections rounds 1-3

I like Mel Kiper ... he was the first true draftnik, well before it was cool. He knows a lot about the players, but he's not great at projecting them to the NFL or to specific teams. While I like the OL guys, I still think we go OL in round 1 and swap out one of those other guys for a different position. I don't see us drafting Pryor though. We have Jones and now Delmas who are both thumper type safeties ... I doubt we draft another. Also, this is a draft hugely deep at CB, and woefully thin at S, so the two top S's will likely be overdrafted. I'd much rather skip S in this draft an concentrate on the positions where we get the best value, like OL, WR and CB. Talent and depth galore.

Too many people take Mel to heart. I have no issues with Mel and the guy is a walking encyclopedia for college football players past and present. Mel doesn't project trades, and all he does is marry a team need up to a players skill set and grade. Mel is fine, a bit over the top, but I enjoy him for the most part.

If the fins decides that they have enough talent on the o-line to get what they want done, don't be surprised if they indeed go in a different direction, maybe ebron is sitting there at 19.

Works for me. :-)

Especially one that you aren't sure is going to be a FS or a SS...Pass

I'm pretty sure on most teams he would be a SS. On our team, the way Coyle uses his safeties in interchangeable roles, he would be just S.

I believe Pryor is worthy of the 19th overall pick.

A Safety at #19...meh.. maybe in round 4 or 5...Kenny Ladler of Vandy.

Its 2014, safety is the new linebacker.

You are probably right on Pryor and that's what I keep trying to tell myself. I do like him and I like him a lot, I guess I am just not in love with the pick there. Other than Ebron, or Evans (who I know wont be there) I am not really in love with any pick there. I would rather trade back and get another second or third round pick. I think better valued and would help the team more especially as they start to approach Tannehill's second contract.

How about OT/OG Zack Martin in the 1st, MLB Chris Borland in the 2nd, and OT Mewhort in the 3rd?

You had the same thoughts I did...with several possibilities for the third rounder.

Hopefully if Martin and the other top 3 tackles are gone, Mosely will still be on the board and we can go O-line in rounds 2 & 3.

As I pointed out in an earlier thread when we we're discussing the possibility of getting Jarius Byrd.....look back in recent history at Superbowl teams...they have long run of excellent safeties on those teams.

As good as a player Pryor can be, i dont see it as a position of need. I would rather take Mosley or ebron if available. If not, take a WR like Lee, Benjamin or Cook. Add talent to the team at a position of need, or try to trade out of the pick and pick up more picks. I just dont htink S is a need.

possible marquise lee makes it to us...would be a hard pass for me at least...even without the need...provided zach martin is already gone which i expect...cooks i hear the jets are very enamored with him...explosive and quick as a hiccup...really like the player...be a good pick for them imo to pair with decker...confident as they come...even if the qbs blow

benjamin i think late round 1 is where he comes off...don't see top 20 there potential...too raw doesnt play with enough physicality...but clay to mold for sure...would pass in the top 20...pick 25-40...needs a lot of work

Safety is a position of need. Louis Delmas has some questionable range at FS, and has degenerative knees. He's a short term fix at BEST. Pryor would be a great get at 19.

I'd be surprised if Delmas lasts the year. Even if he does, its not like he is a great player. I think we need to upgrade both safety positions anyway.

miami does need a 4th safety either way right now...so adding one in the draft wouldn't surprise me at all...need someone at least to pair with jimmy wilson as the depth...i dont buy that michael thomas can play every down but i do know that he's not gonna survive as a corner...better work on those specials...thomas needs to face the action as much as possible and you can't do that at corner

ha ha clinton dix is getting pushed up boards so i'd say the odds that pryor gets to #19 are getting lower...wouldn't surprise me if clinton dix went #13 to the rams...and there's other teams looking safety too in front of us...baltimore especially...although pryor and elam would make an odd pair i'd say

quality depth though in the safety class so i wouldn't force it...and a good number of guys that can cover the slot if need be

With Clemons gone, I don't know that we have a solid backup in the S slot. I liked what I saw from Michael Thomas late last season, and Jimmy Wilson isn't completely terrible, but they're either too green or inconsistent. A blockbuster safety would be a good addition to Delmas and Reshad Jones in the backfield.
