Merged: 14 Cuts by Tuesday????.....Who?

is it just me or why is zgonina a lock to get cut , he has a good preseason so far, imo

Rules for cutdown will apply in this manner....

All of you are are listing guys that played in NFL Europe will likely not see any of those guys cut until the final cut down due to roster exemptions. That list includes the following active players:

Rhodes; Walters - DL
Rader - te
Edwards, Thomas, and Reed - OL
Hunt - S
Taylor - LB
Moa will be placed on IR; Hunt could be.

In case veterans need to be spelled in the last preseason game, expect Miami to utilize these roster exemptions

Here is a list of cuts based on this likelihood of exemption:
1. O. Thompson - ol
2. Parker - db
3. Green - db
4. Mann - wr
5. Davis - wr
6. Berlin - qb
7. Harris - rb
8. Martin - fb
9. Solomona - dl
10. Jenkins - lb
11. Farmer - wr
12. Whitney - ol
13. Denney - ls
14. Newson will be placed on IR; Mitchell cb, will likely be placed on IR.

I believe these are more likely cuts.
Surprise cuts could be these guys based on type of contract and what have you done lately syndrome:

Edwards - db
Ayanbadejo, B. lb
Moore - lb
Thompson - wr
Ephriam - ol
Minor - rb
Holmes - te
McDougal - ol
Shaw - dl
Schulters - s
Eiland - db
Richard - db

There is usually the expected combined with some unexpected. But the key is to remember the roster exemptions for the NFL Europe guys. I do not think any of them will make the roster, but they will likely stick for an additional week.

no way McDougle gets cut, he's been playing on the 1st team

Why in the world would Schulters be cut. Bell and Schulters are our two best safeties who along with Jones will alternate this year.

I don't expect him to, but just like McDougal...

These guys signed a short term contract and if they do not please the team they could be discarded sooner than later. I don't expect him to be cut but I listed him due to the nature of his contract. Same for McDougal. I don't expect either of them to be cut.

I do expect Miami to be active on the waiver wire. That could impact players that might other wise make it through to the next cut deadline.

whitley is still on the team?

Yeah, he did his signiture move last night! You know, the "Let's get a ten yard run called back because I was holding" move. He also has the "Let's get the QB creamed because I can't block" technique in his arsenal but he didn't use it.

Frankly I was focusing on Hadnot tonight. I had kind of neglected to watch him play after play in previous games. Rex looked better than I expected, more light on his feet. There was one influence play he pulled to his left and thru a hole, not really finding anyone to block until he was about 10 yards downfield and actually ahead of the RB. That play really shocked me because I never knew Hadnot was anything but a limited space mauler.

I have not watched much of Alex Holmes so unfair to comment. Diamond is a willing blocker but too much finesse for my taste. He doesn't have Lee's mentality of outright burial, but few TEs do. Diamond also dropped one tonight from Feeley, kind of low but very catchable and it prevented a first down on 3rd and 2. The Finheaven wolves would have been out if that drop had been made by Lee.

Since I focused on Hadnot I saw plenty of McKinney alongside. IMO he's an average/slightly below average center who has good pass rush technique but not quick or strong enough to be effective as a run blocker, and not looking any different tonight than typical. The opponent tonight was lesser than Jacksonville or Pitt especially on the DL, so naturally the entire line looked better. James I didn't look at.

Since I drove north to Pompano Beach to watch the game because our power was still out in Miami, I didn't get to tape the game. I'm hoping it will be replayed this week to accomodate local fans who were without power, but I doubt it.

So how's Denver front-line

How do you keep Booker? He's dropped so far as to be a backup to Welker and then he fair catches inside the 5!?!? Drop DT and Booker! Let Farmer backup Welker.

That's why Booker isn't our starting punt returner. Did you notice that Farmer did the same exact thing?

Interesting question. I wanted to tape last night's Colts-Broncos game but we lost power with Katrina and had to drive north to Pompano just to see the Dolphin game. I know Denver signed Cleveland defensive linemen and have been taking heat for it, but until I see the unit play I don't like to comment.

I'm a gambler but not keen on betting the Dolphin games early, unlike recent years when we seemed as predictable as anyone in the league. I know what we'll try to do after watching this preseason, but how effective it will be is questionable. My prime belief is the smart/superior teams with top QBs will pick us apart. Those teams will pick up the blitz tendencies and manage enough one-on-ones in our vulnerable secondary to come up with huge plays similar to the Bears preseason game.

Edwards and Ayan would not be suprise cuts at all. They have done nothing whatsoever. Otherwise, I agree with you cuts

1. Kevin Carter is a LE. I also think that Zgonina is going to get cut. He's very old for a DT that will not see the field much. Wright and Vickerson deserve and need the reps much more than he does.

Kevin Carter is listed as a DT on NFL.com, but he does play both, that's why I listed him as a DT. http://www.nfl.com/teams/rosters/MIA

Zgonina has value, I can't see him cut outright, that's not to say it won't happen if we can't get some compensation.

2. Donald doesnt deserve to be dropped yet. He's a good blocker, and made some good catches last night.

Unless we keep 4 TE's, I don't see him making the team.

Dudeman said:
3. Mario Edwards has been a disappointment. He has not played well, and we'll easily be able to find another dime corner when cuts are made.

Mario Edwards has been a disappointment and had Will Poole not went down, I'd say Mario Edwards would be cut, he literally barely made it on my list, while players like Donald Lee and Ayanbadejo barely made it off my list.

Dudeman said:
4. This is obviously difficult, because you dont know who will be available, but you didnt leave room for potential additions. Last year, we had 5 new players after cuts, and I wouldn't be suprised to see 6 or more this year. There will prob be some good depth players available on the waiver wire. IE, Eric Alexander, LB from LSU who is currently with the Patriots. I'm sure there will be some good corners too.

I was going at it, as if there were no additions possible from other teams. What we currently have is what I went with. Troy Edwards, WR, Jacksonville was cut and he seems to be better than Thompson, so I'd look his way. I also wasn't taking Ricky's suspension into account, so Lamar Gordon will probably be the other back for the first 4 weeks and bye, unless Linehan can better utilize Martin.

Dudeman said:
Overall, though, fairly solid job, and I agree with alot of it. But man, what an absolute waste Gordon was. I agree that we'll keep 4 RBs for now because of Ricky's suspension, but I'm kinda bummed that it looks like Martin has no shot for a backup FB position

Jamar Martin was in my final cut.

I think they will be cut... but it will come in the second...

group of cuts. I expect both of them to be cut, but Edwards still mike make the roster because of a lack of options.
