A reason for the horrible blocking last night.

ZERO experienced RBs in the backfield.

Meaning, NO ONE to pick up the blitzing "whoever".

Marvin Lewis KNEW that our only back was a player who has been on the team less than 2 weeks. Meaning, if he was going to be worth anything to us in this game we would have had to stuff his head full of plays for him to run and catch and likely wouldn't have had time to teach him ANY of our blitz assignments.

How many times did Cincy come with the blitz last night?

Of course the O-line is going to look bad when the other team sends more rushers than we have blockers.

Just a thought....

I think this is why we miss Konrad right now, we were running west coast stuff last night in case anyone noticed and alot of times, the FB was out. And since it is Easlick, i think this is one huge reason why things sucked so bad.

Man, I don't know. I was seeing a lot of whiffing from the offensive line. That was the single worst performance by an offensive line I have seen in all my years watching football.

I'm not here to rag on those guys, but they were athletically man-handled last night.

There is no doubt about that. Wade Smith blows! Mccintosh needs to start against the steelers. pronto.

It is easy to point the finger......

at our o-line, but it wasn't much they could do. Our offensive game sucked before our offensive line started to cave., AJ could not do a thing to move the ball safely. We should know from last year, when there is no passing threat, the other teams D will rush you hard, And that is exacly what they did in the second half. Cincinnati rushed half of there D players almost every play, so how many people should our o-line block?

three plays stand out in my mind, telling me that this is without a doubt the most horrendous offensive line ive seen in my life, and its not the running backs fault. justin smith ran around wade smith, and wade literally waived at him, and didnt touch him. he nailed feeley untouched for a sack. on another play, wade smith couldnt choose between two guys, so he let them both go, that was the play that the announcers were laughing at him for trying to block a linebacker with one arm. the third was the delayed handoff to gordon where the bengals stacked the right side of the line, and the entire offensive line went left, leaving THREE bengals unaccounted for, and of course gordon was stuffed for a five yard loss.

these guys are an embarrassment, and im glad the randy blasted them late in the game, they deserved it! the big question is a simple one, how did we let it get to this point? wanny has largely ignored the offense during his tenure, and we are now paying the price. easily the worst offensive line ive ever seen in 30 years of watching football. remember, this was a TERRIBLE defense we were playing against. you guys bash espn, and the sportswriters, but clearly they were right, this team is a mess, and it all starts with this o-line

And where is the 1st rd pick that we traded up to get? Ohhh, on the bench.

No doubt that they were over whelmed....Wade Smith was absolutely mauled by Justin Smith all night long but, blitz assignments are usually the toughest thing for RBs to pick up. That's why so many rookie RBs, no matter how much running skills they may have, end up on the bench in their first season. They are usually a liability.

Last night we had a rookie and a player that's been on the team about 10 days, STARTING. THAT is a HUGE liability.

I don't think the whole line was athletically manhandled as much as they were thoroughly confused and overwhelmed. Too many rushers, not enough blockers.

Even Joe T was wondering why we weren't going max protect.

Point Smoint. The O-Line NEVER showed, its the key reason no one was productive. There was no threat anywhere from us as we had no time. I can count almost on one hand how many times he had time to throw. Dispicable showing by the o-line they should be embarassed

I think you make some sense. Its probably a little bit of both. Do the Dolphins have screens in their playbook? A little RB and/or WR screen would discourage all that blitzing as well.

The first play you mentioned....that must have happened when I was driving home so I didn't see it. Was it the one where it was "amazing that Feeley held onto the ball"?

Anyway, the other two are examples of what I said.....confusion. Either by an individual or the group.

The reason is that they've done a poor job addressing the OL. They haven't drafted quality lineman. And the ones they did draft were major reaches. Taylor Whitley in the 3rd?? Trading a future #2 to move up for Wade Smith?? I know that he wasn't supposed to play last year. But this is 2004. And Smith hasn't shown one bit of improvement. He is easily the worst starting LT in the league.

And how did we get in that situation?? Well, we were outbid on Wayne Gandy and had no backup plan. Our backup plan was to count on Mark Dixon (a converted guard) and trade up for Smith.

All we can say is, "hurry back Damion McIntosh".

Okay, you want to talk about AJ...

The guy has as much touch as Cristopher Reeves (sorry).....Screens are NOT his strong suit.

I think the play that personifies how confused our OL was last night was when on a blitz, St. Claire and Whitley were double teaming the same guy while 2 guys came from the outside and blitzed Feeley. I know they say that you should always protect inside out but this was bad.

infinsible, yes, that was the play. feeley got plowed from behind.
