Merged: A.Smith gets 6 year 50 million, what will Brown get?

/me chuckles at the people who didn't realize it was going to be that huge.

Expect Ronnie's deal to be in range of Eli's deal.

It's all slotted but kudo's to Smith's agent. Usually the raise is 10-14% and his agent pulled off 20%.

Those that thought we could carry Surtain in an extended contract you now know why that wasn't possible.

Here's to the hope in the next CBA they deal with the rookie salaries as this is why most teams can't float veteran and star salaries. It's all wrapped up in these high draft picks.

Too much for an unrpoven qb, I think he's the next ryan leaf. He's a bust. This draft sucked when it came to QBs but was extremely deep in rbs

Absolutely too much. Had Smith been in last year's draft he could easily have been out of the top 10. Now, it doesnt look like Eli is going to be as good as everyone thought, but at the time of his draft he was considered as close to a sure-fire immediate superstar as you could get. He was going to be the next Elway or Marino or Manning. Nobody was saying those things about Smith, yet Smith gets more than Eli.
Sad.

you have it right to congratulate Smith's agent..........but me, I'm PISSED at the 49ers!!! :fire: Why the hell would they give him that deal?? a 20% increase over last year's #1 for a player who was widely considered to be inferior to last year's top picK???? WTF?

Normally it wouldn't matter, but being that Ronnie was just sitting around waiting for this signing to gauge his own value....that just went up too. I guess now everyone can stop wondering why Ronnie had to wait to sign.........he made himself 2-3 million in guaranteed money by waiting on Alex Smith and the dumb, sumb, f'n dumb 49ers.

Completely agree. Everyone knew Smith would get more money, but WOW, 20% more! Thats freakin ridiculous. There needs to be something done about rookie contracts, this stuff is getting way out of hand. I dont understand how a player who hasnt played a single down in the NFL can get 50 million based on potential. It sickens me how they can get so much money but established vets have trouble getting their second contract in the NFL.

5 year deal for Ronnie? No No No! They better not sign him for just 5 years. He needs at least 6 years and possibly 7.
I didn't think they could because of the current CBA??? or is it only bonus money which can only be spread over 5 years?

I also agree. The contracts are getting out of hand. This was my concern about us picking #2.
