The question is do we think we can handle Owens as a distraction. His distraction issues have usually revolved around two things: his quarterback and his contract.

He's critical of his QB when he loses respect for him, and he's critical of the team and all involved when he thinks he's getting screwed on his contract. But lets just look at things calmly for a minute and pretend the TO thing is GOING to happen. Just pretend.

1. TO didn't raise a stink about his contract until after he had played a full season for the Eagles and made monumental personal sacrifices to try and win a super bowl for them.

2. Comments detrimental to the team can be inked into his contract in a team loyalty clause that was originally used in Cincinnati after all the players started talking smack about the Bengals organization (Dillon, Pickens, etc.). It's a very simple clause, and you go and you get TO to sign that, saying he will not suggest or say anything negative about players on his team, coaches, or front office personnel. If he violates the clause, he forfeits money. Similarly, promise TO that you will strictly enforce the same rules among the rest of the team with regards to him. In other words, if Gus (or whatever other QB) says something nasty about TO (which they wont), they get the same treatment for conduct detrimental to the team.

So what you have is at least a year where TO is going to accept whatever contract you give him, because he knows that you literally can't change a contract within one year of signing it. Then, if he plays his heart out, leads the league or something like that, makes a whole lot of personal sacrifices, if he wants you to look at his contract, you show him numbers and you either adjust his contract to EXACTLY what he's worth, or you show his agent exactly why he's not worth what he asks for (stats, video, etc).

Now i agree that it was his own fault that in the second year of his deal he only made 3 million, and i agree that he shouldn't have complained after being paid 9 million the year before and big signing bonus too. But IF T.O can be tamed then he would be a HUGE player to have on a team.....

Harrison and Moss was the only ones that made more than him that year though and I think they should along with Chad Johnson.

Dillion = TO = ????? i think comparing Dillion to TO is like comparing....Don Shula to Don Rickles...
 
Its an intresting idea thats for sure, Would I want him here yes and no, Yes beacuse hes a great WR and I respect him as an athlete, no because hes a headcase and he is a piece of **** as a person. First of all he'll complain when we dont pass to him, and he'll be a negative influence on Chambers. Secondly he would insult our young QB of the future, do we really want a shaky rookie even more nervous than he would be out there because of this *** clown? Thirdly we have more impotant needs to adress using all that Cap Space next year.

Corey Simon was asking for ridiculous money and was (still is) relatively out of shape. They rarely ever keep anyone 30ish or older. They'll take care of Westbrook, they just believe players should honor their portion of the contract, like, oh geez I dunno..the one TO just signed LAST YEAR. You can go down their list of players they haven't signed or let go, and just about every move has worked:

Trotter, went to DC, did nothing, came back.
Hugh Douglas, went to JAX, did nothing, came back.
Duece Staley, went to Pitt, always hurt, much like in Philly...
Freddie Mitchell, not even on a team (I think)
Troy Vincent, very expensive, couldn't play corner anymore, but has done a decent job at safety for Buff, so Philly didn't need him
Bobby Taylor, I think still unsigned

With that being said, hell no. Why would we even consider him? How long until he ******* and moanes about our QB play or what our team is doing wrong to him. He made this bed, now he gets to lay in it.
 
TO could be had for a couple late rd draft picks. he might even be cut outright. w/Rosenhaus as his agent, expect to see him pushed to Miami.

Great talent. but i don't want him. head case outweighs his talent.
 
well i'm on the fence....i just dont want another year of Mediocre Chambers getting 800 yards recieving. I want a dominating, threating, defense destroying reciever. Our pass attack is pathetic, and if we ever want to complement the run for it to be successful we NEED to pass.

Actually I'm not sure if extenuating circumstances is plausible cause for a trade but however it is written, I don't see them doing that if there still paying him at this point. That said, I would not want a TO on this team or any team for that matter, he's a head case that causes turmoil wherever he goes and not even that spectacular anymore. He IS very good at shooting his mouth off but has'nt really backed it up in a long time. If were feeling that a great receiver will help this team then at any cost the Fins should try to get Chad Johnson from Cincy down here but your STILL missing the obvious glaring fact- If we dont have someone to GET THEM THE BALL, "ACURATELY" then it does not matter if you have Chambers-Johnson-Moss-Moulds-Gonzalas going out to catch it, We still lose.
 
you know....T.O. to Minnesota makes tons of sense.....its obvious what Moss meant to Culpeppers...stats...and state of mind....so just plug in Moss Sr. TO and Daunte is back to where he was.....
T.O. to Denver does not make sense...Rod Smith and Lelie....are good enough...plus Denver runs alot....

He is just stating the obvious. But I usually like his reporting. TO won't be coming here unless we sign a major FA QB first. He won't want to come here because of Gus...if he is constantly dissing Donovan, imagine the ruckus he'd cause with Gus....(it might be worth it to me...) This saga isn't over in Philly yet...we heard the same things when TO did this in TC, but he came back...
Besides, WR is about the last or next to last places for us to be concerned about.

And with the loss of Trotter, how much did their defense struggle? They couldn't stop the run for crap, they gave up 100 yards almost every game. They couldn't pressure QB's when they lost the production of Douglas. Deuce had a relatively good year last year while the Eagle backfield was again mediocre. Mitchell helped at least in the playoffs and could be of use now. Vincent and Taylor turned out to be good decisions but those guys were old....and now with Corey Simon gone the Eagles couldn't even pressure David Carr. Their DT's are horrible, they dont get sacks or force turnovers and their pass D is weak due to lack of pressur.e They stop the run with blitzing LB's now that they brought Trotter back but i was saying they think every decision they make is RIGHT, therefore they continue to make poor decisions. When that is not the case.....
