If Bennie starts, our OL will be the biggest in the NFL.

LT- L.J. Shelton 6-6 345
LG- Jeno James 6-4 320
C- Rex Hadnot 6-2 325
RG- Bennie Anderson 6-5 345
RT- Vernon Carey 6-5 335

Man, Hadnot is looking small...:goof:

A lot of my initial caution about Anderson was linked to my believing him to have been available this entire time in free agency. If he was JUST cut by the Bills on the 9th, then I believe he has far more potential than if he were available throughout all of free agency.

It's the difference between being rejected by one team vs. being rejected by all 32 teams...I'm sure you see the difference...

Also, didn't the Herald article state that Green Bay was one of several teams also interested in Andersen?

I really don't see how this signing hurts us. This really looks like a depth move. When push comes to shove on September 7th, the 5 best O-linemen will be out there. That could mean a possibility of either Andersen, McKinney, Carey or McIntosh starting at RG. Whomever impresses Houck and Saban the most during camp gets the job. This thing is wide open.

Anderson is a depth move and a gamble. I thought the Bills as a whole were terrible and a few just need a change of scenery. Who knows, he may be like a younger Jamie Nails for us.

Here's my take on Bennie Anderson: Anderson was bad last season, and when the Bills 1st signed him Ravens fans came over to our boards to give their condolences. The take on the Ravens fans' part was he wasn't very good and they had signed a free agent to upgrade the RG position. Bennie played poorly last year and was not cut because of new schemes-we retained McNally as O-line coach. He was cut because, like Baltimore, we found a replacement in free agency that we felt was an upgrade. The Bills have many young OL candidates and it didn't make sense to be paying Bennie starters wages to be a backup. Once the Bills had seen enough of Reyes to judge him a better player at LG than Bennie, Bennie was released.
Now there is one thing that may be a valid excuse for his bad play last year: Bennie played RG his entire time in Baltimore, but played LG with the Bills last season. Maybe he'll be better going back to the right side of the line, but judging from the early warnings the Ravens' fans told us about him, I doubt that he'll improve much when moved back to the right side.
There were no off field problems with the guy other than his time spent at all you can eat buffets. As far as I know, the guy is a model citizen.
If you can get anything out of him, more power to you.

Who on earth is even saying Bennie is gonna start for us. Chances are he'll be a back up G or get cut.

it's not like we are giving him Larry Little status

............. the sentiment 'round here is that Houck can somehow mold this piece of steaming, fat turd into a starter. It happens everytime we sign some castoff.

Can anyone spell S-t-o-c-k-a-r M-c-D-o-u-g-l-e? This has bust written all over it. Hope I'm wrong and Houck can pull some magic out of his hat.

well Houck has proven to be a miracle worker in the past. But we are all Dolphin fans here, so it's ok to be optamistic. If we are wrong, then so be it.

no need to be negative.

People are getting a little too worked up by this...

the signing of Bennie Anderson...is not going to make or break us. Its not the salvation nor is it the end of the world. He obviously has some talent and I'll trust Saban and Houck at this point. Its not like Anderson has been sitting around without a job for months. He was released days ago.

2 years 3 million...fine...lets see what he has.

Ravens fans laughed at us when we signed him, now we laugh at the Fins.

The guy cant move. Thats his problem. Coaching wont help him, Jenny Craig might.

This has Mularkey's name all over it. If he starts and weighs what he weighs now, problems. If he is a backup, then you could do worse.

Im serious though. He has some talent, he is just too big. He is huge and has poor footwork.

Maybe down in that Miami heat he will drop some LBS, it didnt help Mike Williams though being in the heat of Jacksonville.
