John Owens is a big TE. 6'3, 270. He's got twenty pounds on McMike.
 
does anyone know what round the conitional might be. I can't see it be any higher than a 5th.
 
I remember John Owens from Notre Dame. Frankly, I didn't even realize he was still in the NFL. The guy was highly touted out of high school and Pat Haden raved about him on some early Notre Dame telecasts. Then I took a look and he was a big TE who was a competent, but hardly outstanding blocker. Not close to Donald Lee in that regard. He also seemed slow. I remember they moved him around a lot, even to defense for a while, while that coach who is now a college football broadcaster for ESPN was struggling to save his job.

Maybe John Owens has improved. Can't say I've watched him in the NFL. But the guy I remember had less speed and not even close to the blocking ability of Donald Lee. Maybe his hands are better than Lee. Admittedly, I love Donald Lee's blocking intensity and skill, plus his ability to burst open down the seam, and would hate to see him go.
 
Hmmmm.... At least we got something from some one who was getting cut anyways... Good Job Saban.

I've never heard of John Owens....do we really need another TE???

Brandon was a good special teams guy....I believe he made the probowl as a special teams player.

Who, if you don't mind me asking, can we trade for a starting caliber lineman or QB without taking a substantial cap hit? This isn't Madden man...
 
im listening to 790 the ticket right now, and according to the Flash i think I heard it saying we picked up a conditional draft pick as well? any1 else hear that?

You guys really have to think about things. Everyone wants to trade potential cut players for starting o-lineman and qb's. It doesnt happen like that. This trade was for depth, and we have plenty of guys at o-line and qb, they just arent good. Adding a 5th taylor whitley type player (which is all we wouldve gotten for Brandon A) does us no good!
 
Hopefully John Owens is different from any counter-parts who share his last name also. At least personality wise. I've never really heard of him, but i'm not a big Donald Lee fan, and if he turns out to be better than him then you have one happy Dol-Fan right here.
