Chris Borland Retires

Chris Borland is hanging them up after one season. I think it's really interesting that he had thoughts about quitting during training camp last year.

I wouldn't call early retirement a trend yet, but the players now seem to be seeking independent medical information and research more than ever before. I wouldn't be surprised if players and coaches start seeking out rugby players and coaches to teach tackling technique in a different way. I would love the Dolphins to lead that trend.

good for him, if I was him id like to play a few years and earn enough to where money isn't ever a worry (especially since the article on espn states he has only had 2 documented concussions ) but that takes some guts to walk away from it all.

No he wasnt...undersized ankle biter as a tackler

Still a shocker though

to someone like me who cant recall watching any of san fran's games, the numbers alone would lead one to believe he was a productive player. not trying to debate hoops but I think I remember seeing he had 20 tackles in one game and 2 picks in another so I can see why yess posted that

Pretty crazy, not good for SF. He was a young future cornerstone of their defense with Willis retiring.
As a former rugby player, I have to agree about the tackling. It may not be as exciting to make a solid tackle rather than demolish players with shoulder charges, but it prevents many injuries. I don't really see point of a helmet when players are just using it as a weapon rather than protection. Obviously rugby is dangerous too, but players are for the most part much more conscious toward preventing injuries on other players than in football, but that all goes back to the football mentality of making a huge hit.

Oh no doubt he finds the football but he dives at lower legs and in space and fell off a lot of tackle opportunities also...his instincts were legit...but he also had physical limitations which showed up

He had over a 100 tackles, he didn't even start playing until almost mid season.

He was Pretty damn good.

Get over the numbers i watched plenty of games...he was limited and limiting in that defense...and he missed tackles a legit mike should make diving at lower legs or getting run over

I remember a bunch of people on here (including me) wanted to draft him last year. Luckily we got the Juice. We used to have that sort of luck in the 2nd round.
