Whoa! haha, I meant in sports and people's consumption of violent sports, video games, movies, etc. When one sees the now lucrative and popular UFC, NFL, etc. And boxing! can you believe how much Mayweather/ PaqMan are getting paid (even more believable how much they are bringing in)?

My point was, It seems like people have an innate thirst for more "action" not less. The NFL isn't doomed.

I still do not know what is leading you to believe that either sports are becoming more violent (they aren't), or that people today are particularly more obsessed with violence compared to any time in the past (they aren't). People consume more shows about ice road truckers than they did twenty years ago, but that's more a commentary on the availability of these things rather than an actual spike in demand. Inflation over time has more to do with that purse figure than an overall increase in popularity. It's partly the reason Matt Moore made as much last year being a back-up as Marino did in 1999. Mayweather & Pacquiao are the only draws in that sport right now, and interest in boxing as a whole has been trending downwards. I believe the effects of brain damage manifesting itself in fighters as they aged (like Ali) had a direct correlation with the decline of the sport. The effects this will have on the NFL are still unknown, but there is no denying we have begun to see some of the ripple effects. I think everyone would agree Chris Borland belongs in the NFL, so when that guy leaves your sport because of this issue, then the talent pool is smaller to choose from, thus affecting the quality of play. Now, these examples have been limited in quantity so the difference is negligible for the most part (except maybe if you're a Niner's fan), but over time and on a larger scale we could start to see some effects.

I selfishly hope it doesn't happen because I love football and America really, really seems to love itself some football as well, but I do not underestimate the effect this could have at the grassroots level with parents who might more and more steer their child towards another sport.
