MERGED: Dolphins hire Lazor as new OC

Yup. It was impressive to watch Kelly clown on NFL defensive coordinators this year. I thought he was going to be a failure in the NFL.

Boy was I wrong.

just remember teams caught up with the read op when they got a year of tape to study it...i could see the same with kellys o now that it's out there for all to review and prepare for

Aren't you guys a little worried that Kelly's offense could be a flavor of the month type of offense. That now that there is a whole year of tape on his offense that D coordinators may slow his offense down this upcoming year?

Maybe, but I believe that the way the Eagles like to lean heavily on the running game but specifically attempt to lengthen the game (rather than shorten it) is something that is not just a fad.

Kelly's offense doesn't really do anything radically different from most others. RB and line block the same running plays. WR and TE run the same routes. What Kelly does is use speed and motion to create mismatches and gaps to exploit. That's how you see some guys running with no defenders on the screen. It's really a pretty simple offense that uses some deception to make the most of it. There's not really any reason it can't be successful long term.

Lazor says he is aware that Joe Philbin's job is in question after this season. Says he made a conscious decision to lump his future in with Joe's.

"I'm with him. I chose to compete. I chose to make an impact."

Well, I love his attitude already.

There was a question in a thread a few days ago about whether we could attract an OC with Philbin's situation. My response was, if the guy is afraid of that challenge, I don't want him. Looks like they found a guy who is not afraid.

Lazor was the Eagles QB coach, not the OC. He may bring in a few aspects of the eagles offense, but i have a feeling Lazor will make the fins offense it's own, depending on the personel on the field. which is what a good OC should do, not try to copy from another team. that just won't work.

One thing to keep on mind about the eagles is all that speed they have. A defense might have an idea of what you're going to do but it's not easy to stay with those guys up there with all the speed. Now it's up to us to make it work without having as much speed other than Wallace and Miller and before anyone talks about how we need to get more speed, sure that'd be nice but they need to fix the oline first. Anyway you look at it, this guy "should" do better than Sherman did but in the end, the players ned to performe out on the field too.

Ozzy Rules!!

I don't respect anyone who is paranoid about the media. It's always funny when the media is slanted and scheming against their football team, and their political leanings...you name it.

Ya, why ignore reality.

I think Lazor was an excellent hire. He got every last bit of ability from Foles this year, and if he can do that for RT, we will be set at QB for a long time.

That being said, I REALLY hope he lets Zac Taylor and Jim Taylor go.

Awesome!!

I'm driving home from work and I hear on the radio that he's hired, and not in Detroit. I couldn't be happier. No, he's not a veteran OC, but all of the people the Dolphins were looking at were up-and-comers. I really think Lazor is going to turn around Tannehill, and in the process, save Joe Philbin's butt. I also caught a segment on the radio (my drive is over an hour), and loved what he had to say. You can just shove over Zac whats-his-name, because Bill is going to be hands on with Tanny. It's doesn't matter that he's OC now and not a QB coach. He wants to work with him, like yesterday.

This is a smart guy, and young and energetic, and full of knowledge. For the first time, I have hope, now.

Well, you say they had terrible QBs when Lazor was at UVA.

Others are saying their offense moved up in ranking quite a bit while he was there.

Also, apparently garbage QBs like Seneca Wallace and some other bum had their best pro seasons when Lazor was their coach.

So this guy seems to be able to get the most out of bad QBs. That happens to be just what we need. Probably the reason he got the job.

So maybe the Falcons should look for a QB coach certified in applying clutch-time Heimlich Maneuvers ya think?

He even said that in his Finsiders interview.
