MERGED: Dolphins trade Vontae to Colts

Can someone explain to me how this is us rebuilding?? Vontae is hardly the most senior player on the team. He's been in the league 4 years. Hes a young talented corner with tons of potential, and we've just got rid of him for a 2nd round pick which might not amount to anything.

You have to assume they use the pick to trade for someone. If not, no, this isn't them rebuilding. You don't rebuild by trading guys in the league that are 24 years old.

Next we trade jake and pouncey for 2 nds and wake and solai for 3 rfd...where are the Ireland apologists?. The only way stock piling picks makes sense is with another gm

great trade. 2nd round pick is high for an underachieving lazy cb with off field and maturity issues in his history

everyone has to realize this year is basically lost. this is good value

Doesn't say much about the GM who picked him in the first round then. Or that he traded two 2nd round picks for a receiver with maturity issues, & get 2 thirds in return. It's not really 'good value' if it was a bad trade/pick to begin with.

Tbh, at this point I think Ireland's gotta be a little ****y if he thinks it's 100% certain that he'll even get to use those picks next year.

two seconds for Wallace maybe ? Can't say I have ever heard of two seconds for a WR...

Actually, we just traded away a guy that we spent two 2nds on....for two 3rds.

I'll be honest. While this trade is a little poorly-timed, I'll support it on the fact that Philbin obviously has a plan for what type of team he wants, and Vontae didn't fit the mold. You could see it on the first Hard Knocks episode when he was talking **** on the sidelines about acting like he's not tired. Did you see the looks that he got from some of the other players? Naane in particular comes to mind. Obviously, I would have much rather had a WR like TY Hilton included in this deal, but I could see this move as addition by subtraction.

Of course, all of the chicken littles will come out of the woodwork because we live in a society that demands instant gratification. It's a gamble, but barring any injuries, I think this will pay off in the end. Philbin is building a team of guys that are accountable for their actions and take pride in the organization (at least, that's what he's show thus-far).

Agree. the only way I can at least understand this trade is if it's to make a play at mike wallace.

I wanto to say if Philbin has any say in these personal decisions, that I have a problem with.... A rookie head coach with no head coaching experience has not earned the right to make major personnel decisions until he has shown that he can get something done and the last thing WE need is more draft picks, because we have wasted more 2nd round picks on trash than I even care to remember just like Brandon Marshall became Egnew... I'm disgusted right now with the fact that we aren't even trying to hide the fact we dumping quality players

you guys need to keep in mind this is going to most likely be a 33rd or 34th pick in the draft. easily be able to get a better corner than vontae with that.

I think we will use the pick to trade for a receiver. They are more interested in gettin Tannehill help than dealing with a headache on defense. Yes we lose cb depth but it is what it is

We just traded a 24 yr old 1st round CB who has been a solid starter and flashed legitimate high level skill for a 2nd round pick... This is such an unbelievably bad trade and a perfect example of how a franchise fails to move forward.

Yup. Exactly. Two second rounders are traded for Marshall who's traded away for two third rounders. A first rounder spent on Vontae which is traded away for a second rounder that WE CAN'T EVEN USE UNTIL NEXT YEAR. Jeff Ireland is utter clown shoes.

Yet people continue to apologize for him. They'll apologize for this move, too, after an interval.
