ESPN reporting the Dolphins are trying to clear cap space for Simon

Just heard that the Fins are trying to get Simon on board. Simon wants to be a Fin.

I had a feeling Saban would entertain this idea looking at his past moves!

:woot: i hope we sign him our d line would be quite nasty if we got him

If this is true then Thompson & Howard may be cuts....

ESPN Radio?

Would be interesting to get Simon down here. :)

i know it's only talk, but it would be amazing to get him down here. we've got a few guys down here that have relatively high cap #s - zgonina and st clair spring to mind.

My thoughts exactly... look for underachieving big contract guys to get the boot for sure now.

i dont think we can cut howard, but some of these 1 year contracts we can get rid of *cough*mcdougle*cough*

imagine the line with Taylor, Simon, Holliday, and Carter starting with Traylor, Zgonina and Chester rotating in at DT and with Roth and Bowens rotating in at DE. this is definitely the hole that we must fix (at DT) and then our defense will be quite impressive, no more running on us!

I'm going to have to be the lone voice of disquiet on this one. I've been hearing and reading quite a lot lately about personnel people saying Simon is a money-only guy who takes plays off. I sure hope that isn't true. He seems like the kind of signing that backfires, regardless of his huge talent.

The salary cap seems to be the issue! Wow, if this happens, our D will be top notch. It would really help the corner position, considering the pressure the line would bring. The cb's would not need to cover for to long.

What kind of money/contract is he looking for? I know he rejected 5.15 mill (for the one year) from the defending NFC champs.

I agree Thompson is gone, but he will not release Howard. We are too thin at CB, and Howard is too high on the depth chart to even consider releasing him. We may ask Howard for a pay cut, but he will not be released. I guess that explains the Ed Perry cut as well. Perry has been very consistent with his long snap duties, but I guess that helps our cap situation some to try and sign Simon.

This could spell trouble for Larry Chester too.

I would think if we got Simon that our starting line would be Taylor, Simon, Traylor and Carter, with Holliday coming off the bench. Traylor is a much better run stuffer than anyone else we have, Holliday would be more of a 3rd down DT to help rush the pocket.

I'm pretty sure you are not the only one. While I don't mind adding Simon to the Dolphins' interior DL, I am probably not as gung ho about him as many. A good player but he does seem to disappear alot.

On a defense like Philly, Simon wont be missed. On a defense like ours, he'd be considered a huge addition....

I've heard some bad things about Simon being lazy, and taking plays off, but this guys would be a very solid addition to our DL, and after watching our 2nd string DL get man handled, we could certainly use some quality players at DT. Simon would be a great signing for us, and I hope we make him a respectable offer....

PHINZ RULE!!!!
