i know it's only talk, but it would be amazing to get him down here. we've got a few guys down here that have relatively high cap #s - zgonina and st clair spring to mind.

bingo, they have been shopping zgonina for months. Thompson is a good bet I think since Welker will be more involved in the passing game. Chester might be another.

If this is true then Thompson & Howard may be cuts....

Right now, Reggie Howard is starting at LCB for us, and CB is a position where we have little, if any, quality depth. I doubt he'll be cut.

Also, from what Ive heard / read about Simon, he was a "product of the system" I HATE THAT WORD, but that is what ive heard.

That's my only fear too... J. Trotter anyone?

Again, this thread shows that some people have no concept of the salary cap.

The only thing I have AGAINST Simon, besides money, is its just not the right time. Simon is undersized to play NT so he would probably be a DT. What does this do to Vickerson or Wright, who might be the future for us at DT?

The only way we sign Simon is if we free up cap space, cutting Reggie Howard is NOT going to do that. We will have cap space next year, however the only way we can fit him under our cap is if it doesnt cost us jack on our cap this year.

The Eagles are a smart team and they have proven to be so over the years. I would be hesistant taking on any of their scraps.

imagine the line with Taylor, Simon, Holliday, and Carter starting with Traylor, Zgonina and Chester rotating in at DT and with Roth and Bowens rotating in at DE. this is definitely the hole that we must fix (at DT) and then our defense will be quite impressive, no more running on us!

Your right we would have an awesome DEFENSE again however it is the offense that needs the work

Just heard that the Fins are trying to get Simon on board. Simon wants to be a Fin.

I had a feeling Saban would entertain this idea looking at his past moves!

Radio or web?

I am not going to go overboard with glee on this rumor. We already believe that our d-line is going to be one of our strengths. We have aging players on it for sure but we can address that in the next draft and don't forget we have 2 young d-linemen that will be developing throughout this year (vickerson/wright). I for one would rather grab a decent o-lineman that gets released, if anyone is worth taking. Maybe we could use this type of thinking that is going around to cut alot of the fat from the team (i.e. high contracts with low productivity). I don't consider myself an expert by any means but exactly how many d-linemen can we really keep on the roster this year?

Listening to Jason Cole on 790 this morning, he said Baltimore offered Simon a $10million bonus this spring and he and his agent opted not to do the deal. Cole said Simon wants to play here and I think I remember he mentioned something about a "Home team discount" but that Baltimore, feeling that they are contenders, may be willing to up the ante to price us out. He also mentioned that with the cap going up in the future the 'Phins may have to look at coughing up a larger bonus now as a prudent investment for the future to get a guy like Simon.

This would surely steal one from the Bills huh? they have been trying to get his *** and now they have the chance and Simon is looking our way instead? Oh that would be so beautiful.

Another point here is that if were to happen, Saban is defenitely putting his stamp on this team and you have to wonder if guys like Madison, Seau (im sure he will be), and yes, even Zach (as much as it pains me to say that). I think Zach would be last resort though. I personally feel Zach should retire a dolphin when he can no longer play. AJ will defenitely be gone unless he comes out of nowhere and changes his ways.

Yes, Saban brought them in, and they are better than what was here!

Right! Bring in alot of good talent and let them battle it out. If Holliday or one of the others get's axed b/c of Simon, then we ended up w/ the better man. Tht is the point of player evaluations.

Man its good to have guys WANT TO COME HERE... The last few seasons players and front office personnel avoided this frnachise like the plague!..

Amazing what a new regime can do!

Man Saban brings RESPECT!

It would be a BAD move to pick up Simon. He wants A LOT of cash and is only a good DT that isnt worth the price he wants to be paid. I've seen every game he has played in and assure you he is not a dominating force. The Eagles had problems with the run defense impart because simon isnt great against the run. He isnt the kind of DT that can get 10+ sacks a year and although he is above average as a pass rushing DT. However he is average against the run.

The Eagles rarely let players go that will have greater success in the future than they had in philly. Look at Trotter who went to the redskins for big money and almost ruined his career because he was in a system that didnt suit him. He is back in philly now, playing like a pro bowl player again. Jim Johnson has a way of making players look better than they are, and if this is the case with Simon, than we are in even more trouble if we pick him up, because that means we've seen his best and it aint all that great.

Bottom line, the down side of adding Simon outweighs the potential benefits of Simon. He is an above average DT but not a true force in the middle and doesn't deserve the cash and cap space he will take.

Hmmm...interesting again...you mention Carter, Holliday, and Chester are old...all free agents brought in 05. Nick brought these guys in right?

yes, but contracts for most are not killers. Chester was here!

I can see your point. But Saban has been a magnet for players coming here since the man took over. Somehow, I feel it could happen if Simon is truly being sincere about wanting to play here. Miami is used alot in sweepstakes for FA alot.
