MERGED:ESPN reporting the Dolphins are trying to clear cap space for Simon

Again, this thread shows that some people have no concept of the salary cap.

The only thing I have AGAINST Simon, besides money, is its just not the right time. Simon is undersized to play NT so he would probably be a DT. What does this do to Vickerson or Wright, who might be the future for us at DT?

The only way we sign Simon is if we free up cap space, cutting Reggie Howard is NOT going to do that. We will have cap space next year, however the only way we can fit him under our cap is if it doesnt cost us jack on our cap this year.

The Eagles are a smart team and they have proven to be so over the years. I would be hesistant taking on any of their scraps.
But I thought we would never run the 3-4 because Saban never ran it in college.;)

yes, but contracts for most are not killers. Chester was here!

Carter is the only deal that is long term (5 years) probably backloaded some too.

Forget the 3-4, its more like the 6-2-2-1. If that makes any sense.

I don't see us having to cut an incredible amount of players to do it. Weidermier is great at signing deals that don't burden in us in the future, but don't put too much right now.

An underachiever? I'll take my 5-8 sacks a season thank you very much sir...

Okay, ws just over at Billszone, they want Simon also, I followed up with the story from The Herd (ESPN RADIO) and the Story from the Herald about Simon wanting to come here. Clumpy says Miami can afford him better then the Bills.

I still don't want to mess with the cap to much, but I feel better hearing that from Clumpy! So let's see what happens!

IMHO ESPN is just guessing that we are clearing cap space for Simon, who says that we arn't clearing it for another player that is likely to be cut later on in the preseason. Adding a high $ DT doesnt make any sence really when you have two young DT that have showed some promise.

We all know that pretty much anything that doesnt come from Saban or the organization is just pure speculation.

Dont get me wrong I think he is a good player and I would love to have him on this team, I just dont understand why.
