MERGED:exactly the reason NOT to take a rb at #2/The Ronnie Contract

T. Barber, L.T., P. Holmes, J. Lewis...

all these players have serious impacts on offense.

priest holmes is not who you should be citing. in the final 8 games he missed, blalock avg 4.6 ypc, the same exact yardage that priest averaged, and larry johnson averaged 4.8. it is the o line, not the running back.

yeah and we had ricky in 2003 with 1853 yards and 4.8 ypc and where did that take us?

i hate that arguement... yeah since we didn't win a championsihp with ricky he had no effect on our offense/team, right... might as well take peyton manning off the colts, what does he do for them, they haven't won any championship either :shakeno:

great news from dolphinsville as ronnie brown and his agent have made it known they want to get PAID. everyone knows as a #2 pick you are going to get a phat deal, but i think brown's agent is asking for an absurd amount. reguardless of what we end up paying him i will tell you this: if our offensive line blocks, then any of the backs we have can be successfull. minor, morris, or harris. if they block like they did last year, brown or anyone else in the backfield is going to struggle to get 3 yards per carry.
this is why i'm against taking a running back with the #2 pick. DBs and WRs are what i think you should take when you are drafting top 5. they dont rely so heavily on other things as other positions do.

You are assuming things. Or you don't follow football. Negotiations with #2 picks are always a ***** and they always get "PAID". I don't foresee this being any more difficult than it's been with previous #2 picks in past drafts.

Listening to Saban's interview with Lebatard, it seemed clear that he would have taken Smith if SF had passed. Saban had Smith rated as a franchise QB (the only one on his board). It's moronic to pass on a franchise QB, if you don't have one regardless of what your rushing attack was ranked last year. RBs are simply less important b/c they are available many places. When you factor in the salary cap, RBs are rarely good value that early in the draft unless you think the guy is just special (I'm talking LT or Dickerson special). Clearly Saban puts Brown in that category.

sabans board was 1.smith 2. ronnie and 3. Edwards....he got who he wanted at #2 and thats final. Why do you think the top 3 Rb went in the top 5, because this year's RB class is SPECIAL!!!! we got who we NEEDED, he will fill a NEED.

It doesn't matter, homie...If you didn't notice, the draft was a week ago and we already picked him...So now that what's done is done, can we talk about something that matters??

P. Holmes is/was a dominant player in the NFL. a player you base an entire offense around. just cus hes getting older, and slowing down a bit doesnt change the fact that he is/was a GREAT RB.

i could have said R. Williams, but yall would have taken that the wrong way. :shakeno:

And you rip me for saying to get a RB and u want to take a CB at # 7, let me start laughing at you now.......

first i never ripped anyone for wanting a rb at #2. second, i don't think anyone is going to be laughing about wanting a cb at some point this season. we all wanted to ship out surtain for that 2nd rounder and in a business sense, for good reason, but i hope and pray our d line is vicious and gets serious pressure on opposing qbs, otherwise we might be hurting in pass defense.

sure we can talk about things that matter, but if we're gonna do that can you change your name to something relative to the miami dolphins circa 2005?

Saban and everybody knew that if we didn't have an opportunity to trade down that we will take the best player available that helps our team. And they know that a #2 pick overall player is going to get paid. Coach obviously wasn't able to trade down so he made the most logical choice. If we had gotten Braylon Edwards at #2 do you know how much $$$Dough he was gonna collect?? Your barking up the wrong tree, homes.

That isn't his point.

The #2 pick is gonna get paid no matter what...status. How many outstanding LTs are there playing right now? Not many. LT, QB, DE, CB, etc. are positions that are more difficult to fill so the investment has greater value.

If you read the article in the Sun who do they compare possible salaries with? Robert Gallery an OT! no big suprise High draft pick = Big Money!

You're kidding, right? A wr doesn't rely as much on others? How about the guy throwing the ball, and the protection he has? A RB is the position that is least dependent on others. Of course, they need blocking, but they're the best position to do something on their own.

Well, let's look at it this way; Even if Ronnie doesn't sign before the Pre-Season is over in week five we will have a viable RB in Ricky Williams, so really by that time we will have both of them running the rock. I think Ronnie and his agent won't be too much a pain in the ***, he seems like a modest guy to me that wouldn't put greed over the love of the game.

i would have taken the hit and given up the #2 for minny's #7 and #49, as was offered, contrary to saban lying and saying we did not recieve any trade down offers,
