the last 6 games, which we won as I'm sure you know, his QBR was 83.5, that's a career high for a 6 game stretch from Gus....much more than I ever expected out of him.....and 8 Td's to two INTs, I'd take every day of the week.

And I see your point... BUT... three of those six games he had a rating in the freaking 60's or less. THREE of the six. So to say that he was "really good" over the last six weeks is inaccurate.
accuracy- wise, he was same ol' same ol'.....turnover-wise, he wasn't bad in any of the last 6.You can say he was really good in three of the last six games and that would be true... and he was awful in three of the last six games.
That's the thing about Gus that nobody really talks about... and this is so rare that it's just boggling...
Gus Ferotte had ONE rating (out of sixteen) between 73 and 92. ONE.
He was almost never "ok" or "decent" or "pretty good". He was pretty much great or godawful. And more often awful than great.

Wins are tied to TO's.....Gus is going to be innaccurate at times, but he's not going to kill you with the stupid play...
but how many 70s and 91s did he have
more to the point is, Gus proved to be a serviceable QB who will not kill an offense with stupid mistakes......he wasn't great but, he wasn't complete garbage. We need to upgrade the position but, finding someone to lead the offense better , next year, isn't going to be easy to do.

nopony said:Sorry, my bad. The third was a 70.3. Still bad, but not what I said.
Barely completing 50% of your passes for a 6.06 YPA will kill you just as surely as turnovers. And it's not like he was great at TOs. He had his share of INTs.
Well, that's not really relevant since those numbers fall squarely in the "bad" and "great" range. None of those are "ok".
But to answer your question... he had NINE games this year with a rating in the 60's or less. NINE. Six of those with rating in the 50's or less.
I think we agree on a lot, but I am less kind to his performance than you are... and I think it would be easy to do better than the 28th ranked QB in the league. I think it would be hard to do much worse. I mean he only has a few rankings to fall.
Is it possible that Gus simply underperformed this past year....and if he can produce a avg consistent year that would put him in the 14th - 19th ranked QB and as a team we would be significantly improved in QB play for one more year??
inFINSible said:Like i said, Gus is not high on my list at all but, he did better than I thought he would this year. Think about that for a minute..
Rankings aren't anything but comparisons to ther teams' QBs, they don't say much about his effectiveness for our team.......gus is crap, np admitting that but, if he played all season like he did in the last 6 games, we'd have been in the playoffs, no doubt.....that's where we want to be, no matter who is QBing....if we find somebody better, great but, at least with Gus we know we'll have a chance....anything else is icing.
