MERGED: Gordon Starting RB On Opening Day?

Kay-Jay Harris..........Come on Down!!!!

lol, he actually might see some time in the first game and possibly the first 4 games if he is not cut(which i hope he is not) after ricky comes back though he most likely wont see anytime unless someone gets hurt

Gordon was the best looking back at minicamps. And that's not a bad thing. He looked really sharp out there. So it's no suprise that he's currently atop the depth chart.

It's not as if the guy isn't talented. He just can't stay healthy.

It's probably not going to be the popular thing...but I think I agree...

I don't think it will matter this year who starts -- I see potentially 3 backs getting significant carries. (Gordon, Brown, Williams) And two others thrown in there too...Morris and Harris. I like the situation for the team, but not for fantasy football. I think Brown starts though, and Gordon gets 10+ carries too to start season.

Where does this love affair with Gordon come from?? He has had only 2 runs of 21 yards of more, in his 3 years in the league. Now lets not forget he was running behind one of the top 5 OLs in football. He was a change up back that defenses did not prepare for, Travis Minor put up good numbers behind a horrible OL when giving the chance. He is not a scat back or a power back and does not have great vision, nor is he able to make people miss or break a lot of tackles.

The one given is he seems to be hurt a lot, other than that I really don't see how he can be better than Morris or Harris. He was a knee-jerk panic move that the last regime thought was a must after Ricky left last year. The wasted 3rd pick was only forgivable and forgotten b/c the same idiots gave a freaking 2nd up for a backup QB that no other GM would have given a 4th for.

We are deeper at RB now than anyone in the league, and I really don't see Gordon being part of the mix. I really want to see what Harris does at this level. No one is talking about him, but he could be the steal of the off season.

Well this doesnt bode well for the offense. Gordon is a backup-at best. We arent going to scare anyone with him at Rb. I really can't stand the contract holdouts and bs associated with top 5 picks. How many of them actually come into the camp ontime?

I agree, it's frustrating.

It's not really Brown's fault at this point, though. IIRC, no first round picks have signed. Overall, only 43 of the 255 picks have signed.

Everybody is waiting for the Niners and Alex Smith to get a contract finished. Generally the #1 overall pick sets the bar each year. Then the others go from there.

There's been speculation that the 49ers are intentionally stalling for the purpose of harming as many other teams as possible.

I think Saban will end up trading Gordon, and it will be Brown,Harris and Morris splitting time in the back field. With Brown getting as much as he can handle.

I also think Saban will trade some others, like D Bowens(4th or 5th or cut to pay for Schulters) and Zoiniga(5th-7th) and hopefully a 4th for Gordon

This is by far the worst post I've seen in my career of any message boards and the sad part is that a 35 year-old man wrote it.

We can't trade Zgonina because he is the most experienced DT excluding Carter and Traylor, plus he is a good backup, David Bowens had like 3 interceptions in mini-camp and can be a big contributor in the 3-4 as a LB, Gordon like the article said is better than Morris, Harris, Minor, and more experienced that Brown. Why would you trade him?

This was my concern all along with drafting that high. I was worried about cap space at first, but when we traded Surtain that made the space available. I think Ronnie not signing before training camp or the season starts is pure speculation, no one really knows. History though really makes me want Alex Smith to get signed A.S.A.P. Ronnie not signing only hurts himself. Alex Smith I know has said he wants to be there when training camp starts so we will see.

From what ive read in the media Gordon is in great shape and he says his injury is totally gone and hes never felt better. The situation cud be a heck of a lot worse. IMO we are in good shape. Brown will be signed IMO by the first game , Ricky to come back and Gordon fully fit. Weve actually got serious depth at RB if all things come together.

Just a thought, I doubt it could happen but what is all your opinions on this scenario. What if Lamar gets the bulk the first four games and turns out to be a stud. You think Saban would yank him for Ricky/Ronnie come game four, even if he's producing? It would be kinda hard to take a back out of your offense if he is producing. Thoughts?

P.S. Don't flame me, I don't think Lamar is all that good, I'm just asking "what if" questions.

P.P.S. The niners and Alex Smith are going to get a deal done as fast as possible so he can be in camp early enough to start the season for them. The Niners need him in camp badly, and Smith needs to avoid a potential Drew Brees situation. Don't count on those negotiations lasting as long as you all expect.

If Lamar Gordon is our starting RB Week 1..........4-12 here we come agian!

It isn't so much if Brown hasn't signed by opening day. It's about how far he is behind once he does sign.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if Gordon does start out the gate. Give Brown as much time as he needs to get his feet wet before he thrust into being the workhorse...

Just in case you didn't know, we are no longer a run-oriented offense and what Gordon will be ask to do is ball control....Prevent penalties, prevent loss of yards, and ball control..If he can gain 3-4 yards on 1st & 2nd down, that would be huge for our passing game

I don't think he is any good. Period.

He is not a scat or power back? He isn't, hes a 230lbs guy that ran a 4.3, hes the same type of runner as ronnie, whats the problem there. Last year he was doing all he could with our piss poor offense before he got hurt. There were no holes for him to run through, and he caught a bunch of passes just trying to move the chains. We are deep at running back because of Gordon, he has lots of physical talent and is worth keeping on the roster.

But whats your love affair with Harris, all he's done so far is not get drafted, its not fair to rip Gordon but praise Harris.

Gordon was a bad*** in college and is almost the physical freak that Brown is. He was hurt at the end of his college career and entered the NFL with a misdiagnosed injury. He was never treated for it until well into his second season. Basically, if all you've seen is his pro career then you've never seen him run healthy. When healthy, morris and Harris aren't in Gordon's class. I don't know where you can say no one is talking about him and claim there's a love affair with him in the same post. :shakeno: The fact is the coaches are noticing. He's currently at the top of the depth chart and all mini camp reports are that he was the best looking back on the field.
