great news from PFW

Word from South Florida is that Dolphins 2004 first-round pick Vernon Carey looks like a different player altogether and has the inside track at the OLT spot ahead of Damion McIntosh. Observers say it’s obvious that O-line coach Hudson Houck is pressing the buttons with Carey that Tony Wise didn’t in 2004. We hear Carey is in better shape and more confident and held his own vs. Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor during spring practice.

This is nice to hear. Damn I hope Carey plays out well and ends up shocking us a bit with is immense talent. Also..................

The Dolphins and new general manager Randy Mueller are very high on Wright, though the call is Nick Saban’s to make. Wright, a 6-4, 300-pounder, would fill a major need up front for Miami.

They also talk about how Patriots safety R. Harrison is miffed about not receiving a pay increase because of his good play. Nice to see the ivory tower of Rome starting to crack. Our opportunities are opening up for the next couple years.

That does sound like good news, however I'll take it with a grain of salt until I hear it from a more reliable source.

i think im with OBOY on this one but i do like the news if its true

awesome bro thanks for the tidbit...Draft Wright!...honestly how long do the patriots think they can have this picture perfect franchise?...they can't get away from paying their quality players for too long...crack baby crack!

Guys:

I never knew that PFW was a poor source for information, ESPN uses their "whispers" on their site. This info came from "whispers." Did you confuse it with PFT? Or am I missing something.

Yeah I think people confuse PFW with PFT. Pro Football Weekly is a MUCH more reliable source than PFT.

Oh and the news about Carey is encouraging.

That's my guess. PFW, generally, has always been a pretty respectable sportsinfo source.

I guess the press gets positive things as the coaches try to build a guy like Carey. They never really go to the press and say "Oh boy, it's gonna be a long season if our line doesn't get any better. They really stink so far."

But, the good news is that for them to say those good things, there must be at least some improvement which is encouraging. Especially since there is still camp and pre-season between now and the real season.

That's great to hear about Carey. I was one of those people who questioned his move to LT because I didn't think that was a natural position for him. Hopefully he'll continue to improve and prove his nay-sayers wrong. Sounds like he's on his way. :)

Anyway, it would be nice to get Wright because of his raw talent, but I'm very skeptical about giving up anything more than a fourth round pick for a guy who was in college for only two years and received very limited playing time. To top it off, why was he getting bad grades. Do we have a reasonable assurance that he can absorb our complicated playbook? What makes him so different that people are willing to give up a high draft pick for him when other highly talented people have slipped in the past due to questions about college experience or attitude problems?

Great find, good to hear something like Carey holding his own against Jason Taylor. I don't know if I dare hope that he becomes a quality LT all the sudden, when we weren't even sure he'd be a quality RT or even RG. Talk about one giant leap.

Also, we definitely need to find our own Rodney Harrison type player for this style of defense. This year we will probably snatch Lance Schulters, but he's no Harrison. Kenoy Kennedy would have been a poor man's Harrison, which is a compliment to Kenoy, but we need to find ourselves a top flight safety and don't be surprised if we draft one high next year.

They aren't even in pads yet. It'll be a different story then. I want Carey to be successful, but i'll believe it when I see it. I wonder what Saban does with him if he doesn't start LT. Move him to RG and Hadnot to C? Or does he just sit him? If Carey isn't starting this season, he deserves the title of a "bust". Argue that all you want but when we're talking about a league worst o-line and the fact that a guy chosen 5 rounds after him (Hadnot) has started since his rookie season, that spells bust.

oh man! I know he hasnt proved anything with pads on yet... but if Carey develops into a stud LT for us... I will be the happiest man in the world!! :mdfin: :cpatch::mdfin: :cpatch:

LOL, my bad. I kind of just read through the title rather quickly and did not even think. I knew better than that too.
