Merged: Green Will Take The Fins Into the Playoffs!/He is a great QB

"What can Trent Green do that Jay Fiedler can't do?" -- Dave Wannstadt

My all-time favorite quote about Trent Green in regards to the Dolphins.....in fact I have brought that up several times myself in these forums.

I have nothing against Culpepper as a person.....I just never wanted him on the Dolphins and getting rid of him just means losing one more link to the Saban era. Sounds good to me.

yOu know why people don't like this trade is because green is one hard hit from being out of the game, the guy is 37 right, he has had good regular season, but hasn't done athing in the playoffs, i thought they should of waited to see if c-pep can make it back, to me if he's healthy he's better than green all day , i just don't see the excitment, and behind our messed up o-line which people seem to forgot on these threads, if they don't bloch he's donw he got those numbers behind on of the best o-line in nfl history people!!!!!

Any player is "one hard hit from being out of the game" It's football. I'm not trying to bash your statement, because there's some truth to it, but every player is in that boat.

What I really like about this trade is that we have a QB coming in who really knows this offense. Sure he's temporary, but he's a good fit. He's going to be able to help the receivers, runningbacks, everyone on the offense...and most importantly, he's going to really help out Beck. A lot of positives with this trade.

The way I see it is that it all comes down to chemestry. Trent green and Cam have chemestry together they have respect in each others aliblities as a player and a coach respectively. When a player is comfortable with a coach and his system he tends to thrive in it. Trent knows whats expected of him and what Cam wants he hardly had that with Herm Edwards. The coach knows what his abilities are and his physical limitations are and I'm sure he won't be expected to run the ball which is the way he got the concussion in the first place.

We got two Rb and a hell of a blocking FB that will handle those duties we will be a better running team than most people expect.

Trent Green is washed up. We will not win more than 5 games with this old guy at quarterback. When will the Dolphins stop bringing along these over the hill quarterbacks.

You got to look at the big picture Green has at least 2-3 good seasons in him maybe more who knows. It's not just his play as a QB it's what he can bring as mentor to our future QB John Beck. Trent has been in this league for a long time and his experience in invaluble. Marino had Strock or he may not have been as good as he was without his help Marino admits that himself. So don't just dismiss the old guys they might have something to say and show you that may help in your life and carreer.

The Trent Green move is good for this team IMO.

Teaching Beck, and stepping in for us for a year or two yes, but the price to get Green was too high. IMO

i don't think that the price is too high for a qb that might throw 3500+ yards, 20+ td's and take us to the playoffs! he will be a great teacher for beck and his future! :cooldude:

I think this team is very talented and I would be SHOCKED if we don't at least compete at around 8-8 or 9-7. I set the over under at 8 right now and I'm going to have to say over.

As I just said in another post, we can shut down teams on D and feed Ronnie like Uncle Bill at Thanksgiving. If Green can limit mistakes, complete 63%, and find Chambers/Ginn downfield every once in a while, this team's going to the playoffs.

i agree and hope so too!

You can say that about any quarterback in the league. (See Joe Theismann)

Playoffs are possible

I am an optimist by nature but not so much that I'm blind to reality. The Dolphins playoff chances come down to these four critical issues.

1. No surprise here but O-Line. Carey was a turnstyle at LT the last time he played there. Yes, he is smarter, more mature and stronger than his rookie year, but he is not any more athletic. He struggled againist speed rushers and he will face a number of them in our division and other opponents this year. How well he plays there will have an immense effect on the rest of the line and offense. Continuity on the line is also huge. We have the potential for 5 new starters. Yes, Carey and Hadnot are returning but to new positions. I don't care if you are the Super Bowl Champs, 5 new starters on an NFL line does not usally result in immediate success. Communications, trust and consitent play are all more challenging in this scenario. This will effect the consistency of the offense and our skill players. One good sign is that they are naming starters early. At least this allows them to work together through the last mini-camp and through training camp.

2. Health and development of Ronnie Brown. Its time for him to show what he can do. Last year I was so frustrated when we didn't give him enough carries. When he got carries and touches he had success and we had success. When he didn't we didn't. He must stay healthy because we have no one behind him who can be the centerpiece of the O. His success will also be determined by the O-Line.

3. Special teams. No one is really talking about them but they could have a huge effect on the team and we lost some excellent special teams players. We have a complete unknown at punter. We have lost our best special teams players in Minor, Morris and Welker. I have watched Ginn and he looks explosive but he needs good blocking. We will have a lot of work to do on Special teams in camp. Bad special teams results in bad field position for our offense and defense.

4. Turnovers. We had just 8 INT's last year. We turned the ball over in critical situations all season and that resulted in a lot of short fields. Our Defense was very good last year, but we can't put them in a position where they have to defend a short field. We must hang on to the ball more and get more INT's from our secondary.

I think Trent will be very consistent. But he can't be effective without a consistent O-Line and running game.

Probably too much to ask for ALL of these pieces to fal into place this year. I'm predicting 7-9. I think John Beck starts the last 4 games of the season and goes 2-2. We are finally headed in the right direction with Cam and Randy. We will get younger and better.

I'm not saying we're going to the playoffs yet. This is why I like Trent Green. While, he's declining and he doesn't seem like he'll be around long, he knows this offense front and back. I think the main thing here we have to remember is that we ARE preparing for the future with this move. Green will be here for only a couple of years---starting maybe 1 or 2---and will help John Beck tremendously. But, for all of you that hated Daunte Culpepper's record, W/L's, his postseason droughts, not winning with a great offense, etc. You should see Trent Green. He's played in 2 playoff games---he's 0-2. He only went to the playoffs once (with him at the helm the entire year)with what has been said as one of the best offenses of this decade. So, just because we're getting him doesn't spell offense. Trent Green doesn't exactly make our other players better. He needs help. So, if you want playoffs, we need the whole team playing well---Oline, WRs, RBs, TEs, Defense, STs, etc.

The way I see it is that it all comes down to chemestry. Trent green and Cam have chemestry together they have respect in each others aliblities as a player and a coach respectively.

I'm not sold on the trade, but you make a very good point here.

Green has sucked in KC. Honestly he was just lucky to have two huge crutches that he could lean on in Johnson and Holmes over the past few years. He will likely be better than Culpepper... but his ability pales in comparison to the other QBs in the division, especially Losman.

Trent Green WAS a good QB before his concussion. When he came back from it last year, he sucked.

your putting waaaaay to much importance on 1 concussion. explain to me how he sucked and tell me which dolphin QB was better.
