That's not necessarily low balling. It could be pure poker. Cleveland wanted Edwards. You engage in conversation with Miami to help gauge who Miami intends to pick. Otherwise, it's pure guesswork.

The posters who are suggesting we should have taken a very low pick, or anything at all, don't understand poker in the slightest. As soon as Cleveland would have heard agreement to that, they know Miami isn't taking Edwards so they call the bluff and stand pat at #3.

Who knows, maybe Cleveland would have traded down with TB right afterwards, theres no way of knowing. If it was a no brainer like some of you think it was, Saban would have done it. Theres a reason he didnt, hes not an idiot.

OK, that's an added variable I wasn't familiar with. It would mean Tampa also preferred Brown to Caddy, obviously, and by plenty if they were willing to trade up for him. I'm somewhat skeptical since you put 3 variables into an equation that geometrically alters the potential stumbling blocks. There's a reason those scenarios always turn out to be post-draft "BTW, this almost happened..." and not reality.

they weren't sure, they couldn't have been, and like I said even if it was a 3 or 4 next year or a 7 this year it still would have been better than nothing. I guess you could say Saban was worried Browns would have traded with somebody that wanted Brown, but I highly doubt that would have happened with the very little to no drop off between Brown and the other 2 RB's, and besides......can't they do things to prevent that, like last year there was a trade made but the one team couldn't draft a certain player

I would have taken a 3rd, but you can't go lower than that, on principle. Even if you have great confidence that you'll still get your man - with Saban being a rookie, he needs to not let the league take advantage of him.

A 3rd would have been nice.
