MERGED: Reggie Roby DEAD at Age 43

Wow, I was just reading about this and jumped to the site to see if anyone was speaking on it. What a tragedy, especially when you read about what he was doing with the inner city kids etc. Actually one of the few punters I liked to watch.

Memories of Reggie:
Pre-game warmups, the canon shot WHUMP! of his punts
Thighs the size of oak trees (at least to a wide-eyed 14 yr old)
The darn watch!
Plant leg never leaving the ground, kicking foot over his head
Balls higher than the stadium
First punter I ever saw the little "hangtime clock" used on
Announcers in awe
The punter every boy pretended to be

RIP Big Guy

In August, 1992, the Dolphins played the Saints in an exhibition game in Baltimore's Memorial Stadium. During warmups, I was down by the dugout where the Phins were entering the field, trying to get Louis Oliver's autograph. (I only ended up with Aaron Craver's, which was good enough for me.)

Anyway, while standing there, I looked up in time to see a football in the air, headed right for me & my buddies. I ended up catching it, which is amazing, because I've never even sniffed a foul ball at all the MLB games I've been to. After some arguing with officials on the field about giving the ball back, I was able to keep it. The ball was kicked by Reggie Roby. I'll dust it off tonight & fondly recall his time as a Dolphin.

RIP...

I've been arguing with a friend (Bills Fan) about Roby since I heard the news. I was absolutely sure that Reggie never jumped when he punted like most other kickers. Are others in agreement?

BTW, I will miss him, one of my favorite Dolphins when I was younger.

yes you are right his foot never left the ground!!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Reggie's family. Reggie was one of the greatest punters of all time, we never had to worry about a shanked punt when he was back there for us.

wow, that really sucks, i remember him very well he punted his *** for for the phins, great guy in the community as well, i wish his son the best in the combine, and my prayers go out to him and his family..........
