MERGED: Robinson signs with Jaguars

So I have a quick question. Everyone keeps touting the same line of "he's not a #1," and "we have no #1's," what may I ask is a #1 to you and why is he necessary for us to win games? I understand the value of having a great WR that opponents have to game plan around, but why is it such a priority for many people? I mean, top WRs are often luxury items. So our #1 may not demand double teams, so what? So long as he is solid and can catch the ball I am happy.

We need better receiver play from our current guys that's for sure, but with the way everyone here is complaining you would think Marshall was such a dominant WR for us that we actually WON games because of him. If I recall correctly, we LOST more games because of his inopportune drops and poor performance than we won. Give me a couple of hard working receivers, a good QB, and a great Offensive game plan and I say screw hinging our future trying to stretch for that #1 everyone is clamoring for. Look at the 49ers as an example of what a good game plan and coaching can do when you don't have that #1. They should have been in the Super Bowl.

Unless that #1 is a Johnson or a Fitzgerald I say no thanks.

A lot of fans don't realize WR is all about efficiency.  What percentage of the balls thrown your way do you catch, and how many yards are you able to gain after making the catch?  Every drop is a lost opportunity.  Not to mention when you have a beastly #1, he implicitly or explicitly demands more targets.  There is a pressure on the QB and offensive coordinator to throw his way.  Now if the WR rewards those targets with YAC and TDs, it's all gravy, as is the case with Fitz or Megatron or Andre Johnson.  However, when you have a guy like Marshall who is taking targets away from other WRs and wasting those opportunities with drops, you have a really negative impact on the offense.

People get too caught up with the occasional highlight reel catches or the ability to draw double coverage.  Drawing double coverage is pretty counter-productive when at the same time the receiver is still in your QB's ear in the huddle demanding the ball.  It takes a really strong QB to control a WR like that - it's not something you can expect a Matt Moore, Chad Henne, Mark Sanchez, or Matt Flynn to do very well.

I was just watching finsiders live and John Congemi said L. Robinson signed a 5 year contract with Jax.

Wow, great call on this "non-signing"....Laurent just signed with the Jags according to the NFL Network. It's ok....I don't want a guy named "Laurent" on the Phins. :3w:

Good, we let all of the good free agent wide outs sign elsewhere after we dumped our legit #1 threat for nothing. Good... Good.

Watch Henne go to Jax and light **** up to Robinson and Mercedes Lewis with Mojo in the backfield. Mike Thomas is not bad either. That would be poetic justice. Christ I hate the dolphins so ****ing much right now.

Laurent Robinson signs with Jags

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Jacksonville reached agreement with former Dallas free-agent wide receiver Laurent Robinson on a five-year, $32.5 million deal.

LOL

And rotoworld said an hour ago that he left without a contract...

Good. I didn't want this guy anyway.

Someone who is a no doubt 1000+ yard wr year in and out, with over 80 catches. Who needs to be double teamed regularly to take pressure off the run and other WR's . Someone who is a threat who can possible take it to the house at any time.

That's what I mean when I say a #1 WR.

Just saw that. That's crazy money. Players are racking up the dough this year. The way players are getting paid Miami won't sign any FA.
