Merged: Ronnie browns weight an issue with cam

well it seems know brown can run over people than booker can out run the with
his speed

Good for Coach Cameron, LT wasn't really great at SanDiego until he spent an off season doing pilates (according to a interview at the time) When Ronnie got caught from behind last year after breaking into the open field (Titans game maybe)? I was really surprised, he was supposed to have top flight speed.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ay05,0,4691424.story?coll=sfla-dolphins-front A little bit. I think that's just from the added emphasis put on the running back position in general," said Brown, who's about eight pounds overweight at 240 and needs to slice his 12 percent body fat down to 8 or 9 percent. "I think I'm in pretty good shape, but as far as being in football shape, I still have a long way to go and a lot to work on from that standpoint."

I want to see how Ronnie would play at around 8 percent body fat ... say around 225-228 lbs. or so. I want to see him hit that ideal zone of speed/quickness and power .... acceleration/elusiveness vs. lower the shoulder power. From what I've seen, for guys that are 6'0" like Ronnie, that ideal zone is around 225-230. I guess the best way to know is for the RB coach to clock him electronically running cones, 10 yard dashes, 40s, etc.

To get down to that body fat percent and weight, I'm sure the strength and conditioning coaches will HIGHLY encourage Ronnie to get on some sort of customized meal plan and workout system if he isn't already. Gotta do it if you expect to be an elite pro athlete ... like I'm sure Ronnie does.

The best meal plans have just the right protein/carb/fat combination and you eat 5-6 smaller meals a day instead 3 big ones like we've been programmed by society to eat. This keeps your metabolism revved up all day long. Also maybe take some NFL certified supplements like creatine and protein powder ... plus, good fats like flax oil/fish oil, Alpha lipoic acid, CoQ10 and acetyl l carnitine that help rev up metabolism. Getting tested for food allergies is a good idea also. There's a bunch of things Ronnie could do. Call the EAS experts and head back to Athlete's Performance in Arizona.

Hell, just have him talk to Zach. Zach and his brother have a gym like Gold's Gym in Texas I hear. Zach probably knows as much as the strength and conditioning coaches do about this stuff. It's no accident that Zach gets to the Pro Bowl year after year. He works hard year around and works smart.

It's time for Ronnie to gear up and get in optimal shape. I'd like to see him ripped by training camp and ready to tear up the NFL. Year #3 is usually the year you see NFL backs have the big breakouts ... the 5.0 ypc and 1,300+ kind of years. Cam said in his press conference he was going to make Ronnie into a great one. I believe it after seeing how well LaDainian did last year. I'm sure they'll get the most out of Ronnie this year. Ronnie just needs to set some goals like his college buddy Cadillac Williams does and go after each one of them ... one day at a time.

C'mon Ronnie....throw in a salad once in a while.

Just to add my two cents to this subject. I saw Ronnie Brown about 2 weeks ago and the first thing that came to my mind was that he was a little too big. Which is why I am glad to hear that Cameron's on him a bit.

If you do a brief comparison between Ronnie & Ricky you'll remember that Ricky Williams last year in New Orleans that he was at about 245 lbs. Coach Haslett was complaining that Ricky really couldn't break long runs and wasn't an explosive back. When we acquired Ricky Williams that summer he shed about 20 lbs and the results....he had his best year as a pro rushing for 1,853 yards with a numerous amount of 20-40 yard runs or better.

In order for Ronnie Brown to realize that 4.4 speed he ran at the combine I think he should lose some weigh and get down to the 220-230 weigh range. I think this will only help him with his quickness and burst.

I like what Coach Cam is doing bring more speed to the offense with Ginn & Booker. If we could also work on the personnel that we have too that would be evern better. Remember every season one should be looking for an edge to be even a better player. Ronnie should welcome any constructive critisim from a guy that knows offense and has worked with L.T. who also has a great work ethic.

I don't think this offense is far from realizing it's potential. It all lies within our offensive line meshing together and our QB (whomever that is) being steady.
good post!! I'd like to see ronnie at 225-230... so he's got work to do...

Brown was fat and slow last year, not explosive like he was in his rookie season.

It's nice to see the coach doing his job.

GO PHINS~!

did you not see how ronnie came into training camp last year, he was RIPPPED, he gained like 4-5 lbs in muscle. The reason he was slower last year had nothing to do with his weight, he had a groin injury remember?

Old news about RB reporting to minis a bit chunky. When my boy Bobby Jackson (new backs coach) was contacted by Cam- RB's weight was discussed before Jackson was even hired. Bobby told me that RB came into camp about 4 weeks ago @ 256 or 258lbs- he couldn't remember the exact poundage, but that the prior coach really slipped- Bobby will have RB looking like he was carved out of granite soon! believe it!
ok if he was 256 4 weeks ago and now hes 240 your saying he lost 16 lbs in 4 weeks?

You got anything to back that up, Sally?

I'm amazed that a fat and slow runner can end the season averaging 91 yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry over his final 6 games.

Get real! Ronnie Brown has never been fat or slow in his life.

Ronnie Brown was never at 256 lbs. That is just something else someone decided to completely fabricate. Unlike LenDale White, Ronnie Brown actually works his rear end off in the weight room. Ronnie Brown at 240 lbs is a strong and solid 240 lbs. 12% body fat is far from being fat, much less being obese. When he gets down to around 8% body fat, he'll be back at his playing weight of about 233 lbs or so.
