Is the retactable roof a good idea?

I fully agree with rejecting ANY sort of roof over our stadium, be it a dome or retractable. I think it's a terrible idea... it completely ruins the spirit of football!! I don't care for how it makes the games look on TV either, it creates some terrible shadows on the field... and it would destroy the atmosphere of a game to. Sure it might contain noise a little better... but football? Indoors? Ugh just no!

And I can't believe some people are posting about preventing raind games... Rain games are FUN! They're exciting to watch! The Steelers game eariler this season was mesmerizing in the 2nd quarter with a hurricane dropping buckets of rain on the field! I'd hate to see the weather element eliminated from Dolphin's games.

We have the worst most fickle sports fans in the nation and i hate it. The Miami Hurricanes are the greatest college team in history over the last 20 years and we only sell out when FSU and UF come to town because they bring their fans with them.
I have only been to Miami TWICE, but hey maybe Miami has the "most fickle fans" in the nation, because there are other things to do in Miami on Saturday and Sunday. I know I saw a few "distractions" that caught my eye on South Beach." Schwing!!!!!

but they do play their games at night quite often, when the temps often drop down to the low 100's.
Ain't that something..I drove through Arizona one time on 40 and we had a thermometer built into the car, it was 2am and 108 degrees at the time.

Yes temperature can be an advantage but not as big as you think,
1.
Everyone practices in the heat in training camp and 90 degrees isn't uncommon anywhere.

2.
Players are from everywhere in the world and know what heat feels like

3.
You can simulate heat preety easily, Cold is another story

4.
In The bills famous home opener against the patriots on Field Temperature was 100+ degrees

Nice theroy but it really doesn't matter

Oh yes it does.100 in Buffalo is a lot different than 100 in Miami, especially if it's later in the season. Heat plays more of a factor on the players less and less on the field conditions. Cold is less of a factor on players and more of one on the field and especially, the ball.

I think you're falling for the "CleveThink" of cold weather advantage. That might have been true 30 years ago, before things like Thinsulate, Gore-tex, heated benches, and heated fields.

Oh I agree Miami fans are fickle and spoilt. So much so they care more about the football team that hasn't won a title in 31-years over the baseball team that has won 2 titles over the last 7-years.

The main thing here is that NFL football is the most popular sport in America by a wide margin. Every other sport is a distant 2nd place in popularity. It really is that simple.

You're all way off on this one. Hands down, Atlanta has the worst fans in the country. Trust me, I used to live there and unless it's a Superbowl, Game 7 of the World Series, Stanley Cup (yeah like they'll even have a team if the NHL ever plays again), or NBA final, Atalntan's could care less.

Obviously you weren't at the game, or sick for the following week. Its easy to say what a bad idea it is for the phins when your at home, or in a suite or on the shade side. Spend a season on the visitors side and tell me how much it will ruin the phins!

The fact is (repeat) its going to make alot of people a lot of money so just hope that its retractable.

There are new retractable roof systems that can prevent the feild from being shadowed by having lots of glass on the rise. if you look at the pic i posted of the soccer arena in europe that roof retracts so that none of the feild is shadowed.

Please vote NO to adding a retractable roof on the stadium. Our players practice in the heat and humidity all through the summer and this gives us a small advantage on gameday when teams who practice in cold weather areas come to town.

Do you think they would put roofs on Giants stadium, Foxboro stadium, Rich Stadium?????? Heck NO. They want to have an advantage.

JUST SAY NO!! Let the Jets, Bills and Patsys sweat their butts off in September!

:fire:

What's wrong with a "RETRACTABLE" roof. I'm sure if it was a dome, than we would have no advantage. I'm sure if the roof is retractable, and we think the weather and humidity would favors us, then we would not retract the roof to cover the field.

Jets dont get NEARLY as cold as Foxboro and Ralph Wilson Stadium ... have you been those two stadiums .... daaaamn is it cold. I swear when they made em, they constructed it so the cold would be EVERYWHERE.

I'm from Jersey, which has been dropping into the single digits the past few weeks, and whenever i go to "Dolphins Stadium" in Sept. or October i have no problem dealing with the heat; even when its nearly 100 degrees outside the stadium. All the Born and raised Floridians should have no problem doing something as simple as standing in the sun for a few hours. I'm in favor of a retracable roof, to improve the practices, to ensure we will never play in a hurricane again!! It's only 25% more than a permanent dome. IF Wayne does go for a dome, why would he have just renamed the Stadium to include the word "Stadium"??? IT would hafta be Dolphin's Dome, or Dolphin's Tank!!! Besides we are not a dome team.... this is South Florida yo.. THE DOLPHINS...you might as well change the team colors and uniforms if you put a dome on top.

About practices.......we don't practice at the stadium. We practice a good distance north at Davie.

The funniest thing about this issue, is that Wayne "I don't know anything about football" Huizenga suddenly is knowledgable enough to comment on the climate's effect on homefield advantage and late season swoons. What a hypocrite.

Ya and that's on a cool day! Having a retractable roof over dolphins stadium would be nice. The BOB is one of the best ballparks in the country, the retractable roofs adds alot to that.

Retractable roof is a yes for me! The positives outweigh the negatives!

If it's a retractable roof then it can be open OR closed. The reason Huizenga wants this type of roof is so that he can lure conventions, and meetings to Dolphins Stadium. Think about it, if you were planning an electronic convention, Car Show, etc....would you send it to open air Dolphins Stadium?.....NO. You would look for a facility that has hard floors and can be air-conditioned and isn't susceptible to the elements. SO, by having a retractable roof, Dolphins Stadium can be such a facility.

I would hazard to guess that as far as football games would go, the stadium would be open unless it's cold outside or it's raining.

The current rule for any retractable roof stadiums is that whatever position the roof is at at kick-off (closed or open) then it needs to remain the same way for the rest of the game. That lets teams and equipment managers properly plan and equip their players.

Oh, and by the way...we don't practice at Dolphins Stadium. We practice at Nova University in Davie, Fla.

The only way I'd feel semi-comfortable about a retractable roof was if they GUARENTEED to leave it open for ALL football games, no matter the weather or conditions... Basically closing it would not be an option for any sporting events.

Then Wayne gets his conventions and concerts and other crap, and Dolphins football is still as close as being out in the elements as it could still be. I'd hate hate hate to ever see a roof closed over a Dolphin home game.
