Roger Goodell: NFL will explore eliminating the extra point

The extra point is almost automatic,” Goodell said. “I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (1,256-for-1,261, to be precise). So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play. There’s one proposal in particular that I’ve heard about. It’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six.”

I don't really know how I feel about that. I'm usually not for changing anything about the game but the extra point is almost automatic and hardly ever effects the game. It would add to the game to run or pass for an extra point to make 8.

Oh, damn. I thought this was going to be about Sturgis no longer handling field goals.

More trying to fix what 'aint broke from Carrot-Top McDip****. I ****ing hate Goodell. But it was Belichick who originally floated this ****, so of course you know the NFL will listen when the Patriots are involved.

While they are at it get rid of the two minute warning.

Nope. Big commercial spot there. $$$. The NFL doesn't eliminate anything that makes it or its partners money. If anything, they'll add a '5-minute warning' in addition to the 2-minute warning in order to sell more commercial time and make more $$$$$$.

That's why I hate it and it's pointless. Pretty soon they will be taking commercial breaks for first down measurements.

Why don't they just push the kicker back to the 30 yard line so the kick isn't so automatic?

Not a fan of changing a facet of the game that has to do with scoring...

Best suggestion I've seen is to make it so that the player who scored the touchdown has to attempt the extra point if the team wants to go for one.

Fat guy touchdowns. Just think about fat guy touchdowns with that rule.

how about just don't do anything about it, these guys sure don't believe in the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" theory...

That would would work, but it would be exciting seeing a run or pass to try to convert after every touchdown. They would not have to do it but they probably would.

'This measurement brought to you by Bud Light. While the officials reach for the chains, reach for a cold, refreshing Bud Light! Bud Light and the chain gang- LET'S GO!'
