MERGED: The Miami/KC 5th round swap...

I know it was up in the air as to which one of KC's 5th rounders we got (they had 2), but it looks like we ended up with their #147 overall, as opposed to their #168 overall.

Hmm, I hope that is right. I read here in the Miami Herald that it was the 162nd.
Chiefs coach Dick Vermiel the trade Friday morning, saying the deal is contingent on Surtain passing a Chiefs' physical. Surtain is expected to be in Kansas City on Friday night to take the physical. Terms of the trade are unclear although FOXSports.com reported Miami gets Kansas City's second-round pick (46th overall) and the teams will swap fifth-round picks, with Miami dropping from 138th overall selection to Kansas City's 162nd.

its the 2nd of the two 5ths. NFL.com has already updated the trade on their official draft board.

I am amazed how many people on here really are upset over the swap of 5th rounders. It was a very small conceration on our part as you dont find studs in the 5th, you find diamonds in the ruff. This actually isnt bad for us at all because most of the players we have on our board in the 5th will STILL BE THERE a few picks later. Stop sweating, Saban did a great job in this deal!!!

then i guess it looks like my source (good ole espn) might be incorrect. sorry for the possibly wrong info.

Really? You can know this already huh? Please explain how you can be so knowledgable? Guess there's no way to prove it though right?

Suppose we have DE Simon Fraser from Ohio State targeted in the 5th round. Cincinnati picks him at 153 and then we draft Miami OG Chris Myers instead. Unless we were in the war room, there'd be no way to know how many of our wanted 5th rounders went to other teams after the 147th pick and before our 162nd. Yes, I'm a tad bummed about this because 15 more players will go off the board in the 5th round just so Carl Peterson can feel better about his "trade". So we'll never really know if we got who we wanted in the 5th round, even if you say that our choices will still be there.

Sorry for the rant!

True, but I would still rather drop 11 spots then 24 spots. But like you said, it really doesn't make a big difference, all that matters is that we got our 2nd rounder.
