Merged: Tim Couch Worth a Look - Why Not?

All this talk about bringing in Couch is ridiculous.

Am I the only one who saw him play at Cleveland?

It would be a FAR better move to bring in McMahan. The current 3rd string Eagles QB...

Yep it's rediculous and if Saban is interested in taking a look at a former 1st overall pick in the draft then I guess your saying that Saban is rediculous as well.

Volek is not going anywhere...he likes Tenn and wants to be there and he's being paid well...Besides, McNair isn't going to last much longer...

Couch might be worth bringing in..if we do, it will be obvious to you Berlin and Sage supporters that they are not worth keeping, but he would be an upgrade to both of those guys. When healthy, he got a raw deal in Cle...talk about no direction...those teams had no direction, lack of talent and a FO and HC that were not on the same page...That and injury attributed mainly to his demise there. It's worth a shot...we could still go after a young stud to groom and not have to depend on him for a year or two...Couch wouldn't be very effective this year and would get a shot next year with the offseason and camps...depending on what he's asking for, we would lose very little...maybe when Gus tanks it later this year (and he will), if AJ can't do it, then perhaps Couch could...I hate to be in a situation where we may have to depend on Sage or Berlin...that would be awful...

maybe and maybe not but it is said on espn that Volek has asked to be traded because his agent has convenced him that he could start as of right now in the NFL so he has asked to be traded i know that 4 sure and another thing i live here in Tenn.;)

Frerotte is definitely superior. Much more basic and compact delivery and a better arm, even at a half dozen years older. Frerotte also has more variety of touch than Couch and is more nimble in the pocket. Couch was always gangly and unathletic and can't adjust and throw on the move, partially because of his absurd crankup delivery. His arm was never very good even before the shoulder troubles. His best pass was a quick drop and lob to the outside, a WR on a short go route along the sideline. Couch put decent touch on that and his crankup motion was almost a plus because it enabled the WR to get further downfield. He almost always played better on the road than at home in Cleveland.

Tim Couch was always a big name with small talent. If we sign him, the positive threads will morf to disgust and ridicule if he plays for any length of time.

Ok Doogie, you are talking about the same Gus Frerrotte that wasnt wanted by 5 other teams and couldnt even start for the bungles right? I know many dont like AJ, but lets stop trying to make a god out of qb so you can prove how smart you are. This Gus hugging is actually laughable.

I hope Gus succeeds and he has my support, but the haters calling Feeley supporters blind homers are now trying to act like frerrotte is teh second coming of Marino.

Stronger arm then couch? Maybe, good mechanics? Maybe. Accurate? Not a chance.

Couch is definitely worth teh risk, it is a low risk high reward. He wont command a large deal, only teh minimum, cost no picks to get and has time to learn teh system. I live in Browns country, I can tell you the Browns o-line for Couch's entire tenure there was as bad as ours was last year and their coaching was just as inept. He was also thrown into teh fire from day one on an expansion team which had nobody.

No excuses, but that is the truth, and when factor in teh cost, there is no loss in teh scenario... He doesnt pan out, cut him.

if this is true then it means Saban think very low of Sage.

Berlin's last game will be this weekend.

Berlin will be cut.I am not sure its Sage that would be replaced.Maybe it would be AJ.You never know. There may be some attitude problems that Saban doesnt like.

If Gus can start and get us in the 8-8 range or AJ starts and gets us to 6-10 for instance. I would take the 8-8 all day. You would rather lose more games for what reason exactly?

a better draft pick in every round of the draft.

the frerotte lovers think gus is going to do wonders do this team.

you guys think he is so good then WHY DIDN'T HE GO TO A PLACE WHERE HE WOULD START over the past bunch of years? answer me that.

out of the four qb's on the team, he sucks the least. only reason he starts.

There is absolutely no benefit to playing Frerotte this year unless he gets us to the play-offs and maybe to the SB (yeah right). So I would rather us play Feeley and A)suck or B)be decent and evaluate what we have in house over a consistent amount of time. Not looking over his shoulder and playing behind an Oline that is at least average (hopefully). 8-8 with Frerotte at the helm does absolutely nothing for us a franchise except impede progress on almost every level.
