MERGED: Wannstedt's take on Ricky's return.

I just used your quote as an example, I know what the hell I'm saying.

The difference is, Wanny was pressured to quit. Do you comprehend? Many of us jumped for joy at the news. Don't believe me, go back and review threads from that date. That is completely different then what ricky did.

All I'm saying is that it's crazy to be so welcoming to Ricky, while being so dang hateful to Wanny at this point. Wanny is through, he quit which is what we all wanted, he isn't affecting us any longer, GREAT. And way more then I can say about Ricky.

your opinion is yours not mine, not everyone, including myself, is cucoo for williams puff.... yeah hes back okay

Of course he came to the phone quickly! Nobody has a reason to talk to that fecal bag! He felt important and like what he had to say would be important!!

I feel for Pitt!!!!

Wanny's philosophy was probably the biggest reason Ricky retired in the first place. He put the weight of the South Beach Area on Ricky's back and told him to carry it more than anyone else in the league for 2 years. And he knew Ricky's personality all along and the issues he had in New Orleans and still told him it was his team to lead or to fail. Too much pressure for a guy that doesn't like the spotlight and takes medication for social disorders and wears a tinted helmet shield. Too much abuse on a body that could probably take it for a few years but then would crumble into Earl Campbell's horror story. I respect Ricky for leaving a team with that all-on-you-mentality that Wanny instilled, and then returning to a team that has more support and a coach that told him that it's not all on him. A team would never win with one great player, and he knew this. You can't knock a guy for wanting to be able to walk after he turns 30...we're all very selfish because we want our team to win, we're no different than he is (well, maybe we're not all as eccentric, but that doesn't make him a bad guy). To this day I still don't think that HE thinks he made a mistake by retiring, maybe he regrets the timing and stranding the team and that's what he's really apologising for on the podium yesterday. That I can understand.

Wanny had his chance with 2 NFL teams as head coach and ran them into the ground (pun intended). He's been out of Chicago now for a few years and Lovie still hasn't been able to recoup from the battering-ram style that Wanny founded the team on while everyone else (Rams, Pats) are spreading. If you look closely the two teams are very similar in their weaknesses. I don't think it's a coincidence.

So...let's give Saban a couple of years to get it together before we judge. I can pretty much guarantee we'll be losing games this year based solely due to the immense change in systems - to be expected. But I also expect to see flashes of brilliance that will give me hope for the future! And you never know in the NFL, if a team gets a little confidence going and buys into the coaches' system....look out.

It is crystal clear why Saban took him back!!!!

He has the talent to be the best back in the entire NFL!!

Ignore that, I think not. I do believe the Dolphins coaches are better than a reporter trying to sound important and act like he knows something that coaches do not. Or fans for that matter.

Shape? Saban knew exactly how RW was doing there!

He wanted the Offense around him!!1 What an idiot!!!!! He asked for less of a work load and was denied a year earlier!!! He wanted it that way. Give me a freaking break you MORON!!!!!!

Ricky has publicly made a statement (through Rosenhaus)on how he would not have to carry the load and that is a role he wants!

Social anxiety disorder and he wanted to be a star!!! How many deals did ricky do, howmany did he turn down!!! Star, yeah, that is why he would not do a cover shoot unless his teammates were on it w/ him!

I told you Wanny could care less about Miami!!!! I did not even read that far before posting it. He is a selfish chump that tried using RW to save his job.

Period.

This is absolutely incredible to me. When Wannstedt quit you were all ecstatic and over-joyed. Now you are calling him a quitter. We applied the pressure for him to leave and then you ridicule him for it. Ya'll are rediculous.

Everyone forgives that moron Williams, cause it's the right thing to do, everyone deserves a second chance. bullsh!t. Ya'll forgive willaims cause you think he can help the team win. And the more respectable of the two gets the heat and he's actually not around to cause you more pain.

Some of you live in an upside down world.

Wanny is responsible for the pressure! He set the team up to fail. He talked about not quitting, where Ricky had talked to many about quitting. Ricky can help the team and Wanny could not!

I dont hate wanny b/c ricky quit. I hate wanny b/c he was a poor head coach that put us further back every year he was here. Was I happy wanny quit? YES. Do I care about his opinion on the team he dragged down in the gutter? NO.

Am I happy about Ricky's return? Yes, but I am cautious not to put too much into it b/c of the threat he will quit again. If he does quit again it will not be as bad as last time b/c our coach isn't basing his entire offense around him.

Ricky had problems and quit last year. Bad timing, a mistake, he's a druggie whatever you want to say, he is back and looks like he can help. I am more than happy to have the guy that was our best offensive player since Marino. If you aren't fine, don't cheer when he runs it in.

F@ck Wannstedt. He's ruined two NFL teams to date. He can rot in football h@ll for all I care.

I concur. IMO, what Ricky did to this team was bad for his teammates and the city, what Wanny did was bad for football as a whole. Where as Ricky is considered weak for walking away, Wanny is rewarded for holding on as long as he could. Ridiculous. If he would've handed the offense over to Trestman, the team would've at least went 8-8. IMO, with RW doing hat he did, he saved the team at least 1/2 a season of rebuilding.

The Dolphins are 65-1 to win the superbowl. I put $10 on it!

Wanny deserved all he got!!! He tried to make it a one man show, and failed. RW went to Collier after the NE game when he ran aginst 10 in the box and the safety 8 yds or so off the line. He went and asked if they could "TRY" to throw on first down once in awhile, try to throw at all, try to pull back the dbs'. Try not to run him out of the game in a year or two.

Wanny could have cared less if RW were done in a couple years. B/C he knew if he did not put all the eggs in that basket that he was incapable of building anything else that would remotely resemble a football team. So if Wanny were gone, Wanny could care less who was here after him. Wanny chased RW away, it is a fact! He ran him out of Miami and off to Australia. He did a good job of making RW run. Ricky just was in the run, run, run mood and could not stop. Wanny was Ricky's boogey man.

Ricky is here Wanny is not! So as far as I am concerned we got the better half of that deal, and we have 1 person to thank for Ronnie, Saban, Houck, and Linehan.

Ricky!!!!!!!!!!

Finally... A fan who see's the whole picture. I agree 100%.

Wanny obviously knew that in fact he was the reason we sucked last year...not Ricky, we imploded long before Ricky...we imploded when Jimmy J@ck*** decided to hand our team to failure himself... i dont care about wannstedts Opinion....and that writer for Pittsburgh sounds like he has his hand down his pants too much

Anywayz, Wanny knows Ricky, he catered to Ricky (for Miami), He lived for Ricky (For Miami), He bent over backward for Ricky (again to benefit Miami) and then Ricky dumped on Wanny, Miami and the very sport of Football.

I'm not saying either is better or worse than the other, I think they are both egotistical jerks. But the guy does know the person that Ricky IS.

How can you or anybody say Wanny knows Ricky? If he knew him so well he wouldn't had chased him away. Comments like this from Wanny:
"Ricky was our focal point. He was the heart and soul of our team. That's the way I set it up. That's the way he liked it."

Q:Will Williams accept being the backup?
"I don't know about that one. Ricky liked being the star and wanted the ball," Wannstedt said."

This is exactly the opposite of Ricky. He doesn't want to be the focal point. He doesn't want to be the whole team. When we first traded for him he said he was happy to be coming to an already good team that he didn't have to do it all.
Wanny don't know **** about Ricky!!!
Never did!!!
