Merged:When and HOW did you become a FinFan?

I live in VA, everyone in my family is a Redskin fan.. it all started in 83,( the John Riggins Superbowl ) and everyone in the house (like 20 people, I was 8 years of age then )was rooting for the 'skins. Well not me, I had to be different. I wanted THE OTHER TEAM to win, and upset all these people. None the less, it didnt happen, but I came away with a fond memory of that Orange and Green team that had just lost. Couple that with the fact that I played WR in pop warner, and wanted to be the next Mark duper, or mark Clayton, and Miami was abit pass happy back then, and the result was a life long dolphin fan...

very easy. I watched the whole Chicago Bears 84-85 season, and the MNF game when Marino , Duper and CLayton broke the unbeaten streak. and it was true love ever since.

Born and raised in south florida and my father was a dolphin fan. I can't remember my first game exactly, but I remember being young and watching and going to games every sunday.

I was about 6,maybe 7,growing up in northern california and my mom took me and a neighbor kid shopping for school clothes to mervyns.we both spotted a Helmet, shoulderpads, pants and Jersey, all in one box.My friend bought the Raiders and so we could be different,I bought the Dolphins and Ive been hooked ever since.I just turned 40 last Dec.my brother, who just turned 30, has been a Dolphin fan all his life, and all three of my kids as well, with just a little influence from me. :bandwagon

My parents lived in Miami when they had my older brother. They changed his bris time so they wouldn't miss the 72 SB. As long as I can remember when it was Sunday I was sat down and fed Miami football.

Yes, a similar thread was started recently... here was my response to that one... it pretty much fits into this one...

I live in Upstate, NY, was born in Naples, Italy, but lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area as a kid. My parents, who were both originally from Upstate, NY, moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area after I was born, right after my Dad got out of the service. He had relatives and a job waiting there for him. That was 1972.

My parents followed football, but didn't have a "favorite" team. They knew the 'Phins had been to the Super Bowl and lost the previous year, but that was about it. They followed the 'Phins during the Undefeated Season and were hooked by about halfway through. The earliest pictures of me are all of me dressed up in 'Phins stuff... mostly Czonka, cuz my Mom had a crush on him!

Although we moved back to New York a few years later, I was raised a DolFan. I saw my first game when I was 5, at Rich Stadium vs. the Bills. From that time on it was a family event to go to the 'Phins/Bills game in Buffalo every year, since it was only an hour away.

For the last 10 years or so, I have gone to the away games vs. the Bills, Jets, and Pats religiously, and at least one game a year in Miami. This year's game, however, was special on many levels.

First, it was the Rams game, which was our 1st win of the season, and came one week after being at Ralp Wilson Stadium, watching us get our aaaaaaaazzzez handed to us by Buffalo, in one of the COLDEST October games I've EVER been to.

Second, it was my Mom's first game IN Miami. We didn't have a lot of money when we were living down there when I was young, so she never got to go to the Orange Bowl to see them play. She's see them play in Buffalo many times, but it's just not the same. So, we were on vacation on the Gulf Coast (Siesta Key) in November, and I planned a suprise for my Mom... 6th row corner seats to her first ever 'Phins game in Miami! She was floored.

We drove 3 hours, each way, and it was worth every minute of it. She was overwhelmed, almost in tears (see pic) to be at the Stadium. Oh, and we made the ESPN highlights... during Chambers' TD. You could plainly see us jumping up and down and going crazy when they showed the highlight of him streaking down the sideline and running in to our corner of the endzone. It was a GREAT, GREAT, day!

So that's my DolFan story...

Ok, in my thread I started about autographs, you said Johhny U. signed your something blaster or some chit and you made him your slave and so on, I was thrown off by that but didnt want to ask a question offend you. But now, I am totally thrown off, picked up and thrown off again by your comment there. What the heck is going on with you?

It was 1970. I was outside playing football with younger brother and nieghbor kids. I'm born in Iowa and it get's really cold in Dec. We were talking about how it sucks being a Bears fan because they lose alot.Dad wad a Bear fan, older brother also a bear fan. Little brother picked the Packers cuz they were good back then.some neighbors picked the Vikes cuz they were pretty good then also. I went inside to warm up and sat down with dad watching football on TV. the Dolphins were playing at home in Dec and the crowd was wearing short sleeve shirts!! this was cool to me at the time..then they showed the cheerleaders and even though I was only 10 I was hooked on the fins!!!!!!!

Na-nu, na-nu...

I remember my parents bought me a Miami Dolphins backpack when I was about five and a Delvin Williams jersey that same Christmas. I liked the aquatic mammal dolphins so I think that's why they bought them for me. Living in Central New York in the 70s and 80s, you didn't get to see many Dolphins games. But the first game I really remember watching and cheering in the '81 Dolphins-Chargers classic. I really thought we were going to win that game after we took a 38-31 lead. I remember crying when we lost. My dad told me that that was nothing to cry about. He said they showed so much heart and desire in staging that furious comeback. He said that it was something to be proud of, and I've been cheering and crying ever since.

I'm 38 years old and became a Dolphins fan in the second grade. We got to go to the library and look at books. I found a book about Csonka and Griese. The rest is history. I've bled aqua and orange ever since. The sickness gets worse each year. God HELP ME!
