Yes, a similar thread was started recently... here was my response to that one... it pretty much fits into this one...
I live in Upstate, NY, was born in Naples, Italy, but lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area as a kid. My parents, who were both originally from Upstate, NY, moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area after I was born, right after my Dad got out of the service. He had relatives and a job waiting there for him. That was 1972.
My parents followed football, but didn't have a "favorite" team. They knew the 'Phins had been to the Super Bowl and lost the previous year, but that was about it. They followed the 'Phins during the Undefeated Season and were hooked by about halfway through. The earliest pictures of me are all of me dressed up in 'Phins stuff... mostly Czonka, cuz my Mom had a crush on him!
Although we moved back to New York a few years later, I was raised a DolFan. I saw my first game when I was 5, at Rich Stadium vs. the Bills. From that time on it was a family event to go to the 'Phins/Bills game in Buffalo every year, since it was only an hour away.
For the last 10 years or so, I have gone to the away games vs. the Bills, Jets, and Pats religiously, and at least one game a year in Miami. This year's game, however, was special on many levels.
First, it was the Rams game, which was our 1st win of the season, and came one week after being at Ralp Wilson Stadium, watching us get our aaaaaaaazzzez handed to us by Buffalo, in one of the COLDEST October games I've EVER been to.
Second, it was my Mom's first game IN Miami. We didn't have a lot of money when we were living down there when I was young, so she never got to go to the Orange Bowl to see them play. She's see them play in Buffalo many times, but it's just not the same. So, we were on vacation on the Gulf Coast (Siesta Key) in November, and I planned a suprise for my Mom... 6th row corner seats to her first ever 'Phins game in Miami! She was floored.
We drove 3 hours, each way, and it was worth every minute of it. She was overwhelmed, almost in tears (see pic) to be at the Stadium. Oh, and we made the ESPN highlights... during Chambers' TD. You could plainly see us jumping up and down and going crazy when they showed the highlight of him streaking down the sideline and running in to our corner of the endzone. It was a GREAT, GREAT, day!
So that's my DolFan story...
