I guess I'm showing my age when I say that I've been a Dolfan since 1966. I was living in Ft. Pierce and remember all the hoopla about Miami getting a football team. While I don't remember much about the games, I do remember Wahoo McDaniel, who was also a pro wrestler, and the Wilsons, and the opening kickoff for a touchdown. I also remember all the losses.
Later, in 1971--1973, I was attending Florida Atlantic University, and got to attend several games over those years which, of course, were the best. I saw Griese, Kick, Czonka and the rest of the crew during their unbeaten season playing the likes of Joe Willie and Len Dawson. Then, in 1972, a miracle happened. I actually attended a party for Jake Scott, and got to meet him, Dick Anderson, Jim Mandich, Marv Fleming, Manny Fernandez and others. I even crashed at their apartment!
I suffered through the loss of Czonka, Kick and Warfield to the Canadian league, and demise of the Super Bowl teams, Woodstrock and celebrated the ascendancy of Marino. I mourned the retirement of Shula who, by that time, I felt like was a dear friend, although I have never met him.
Today, I am as much a rabid fan as I was in the early 1970's. I brought my kids up as Dolfans; I scheduled honeymoons and divorces around Dolphin games, I went to games in the Orange Bowl and Joe Robbie, and have worn silly Dolphin hats and waved white hankies. I plan on having the Dolphin logo inscribed on my headstone.
Thank God for satellite, as I never would have moved out of Florida if I couldn't get Dolphin games every weekend. When Jax got the Jags, I bought a satellite and stayed true aqua and orange. Now, in Redskin country, I am an anomoly. But, there is no doubt as to my loyalty. It shows in my office, on my truck and at home,
I AM A DOLPHINS FAN NOW AND FOREVER !!!!!!!
