MERGED3X: Matt Turk on IR

id rather have Donnie Jones do the job...considering age..I woulda also liked for us to bring in Rodney Williams..that boy can blast a punt
 
Kind of funny my Sig about Ryan was up before Turk was hurt, too bad this kid is not allowed to leave his contract until February
 
I posted it before, and I think its possible that I could be on the right track. Turk was going to be unable to punt this week, so Donnie had to be called up. Saban obviously like Jones, and sees a good punter, and didnt want to lose him. If Turk returned in week 2, Donnie would have to be waived, pass through the waiver process before he could be resigned to the PS. Its very likely that if he did well against Denver that some team would pluck him off waivers. After all, there was talk about Martz having an interest about a week ago. So rather than risk losing Donnie, he now has a great chance to be the punter now and for the future. He had one bad punt in the ATL game, but all the rest were boomers.

I dunno about yall, but I always liked Turk after he facemasked that one guy to save a TD and then got into it with a linebacker.
 
Saban has been getting really weird with the injury reports. DT had a great game, then he suddenly had an injury then on IR. Same stuff with turk. Weird as hell.

Nick did refer to Dropson as an elevator though....never had a consistent performance

No he's not. He is following the proper procedure. A team cannot outright cut or waive a player that is injured.
This groin injury of Turk's could have lingered on for 6-8 weeks. You can't keep 2 punters on the 53 man roster for weeks while waiting for one of them to heal up.
The team will probably now reach an injury settlement with Turk and he will have his contract terminated from IR, same as was done with Thompson.
 
they will release him with a injury settlement and he will be a FA, this team is getting younger by the day

I agree. You cannot wait around for a punter who is on his way out anyway. Saban should not be expected to compromise the team for a punter that he did not even bring in and who is not stellar anyway. You'd have to be quite a punter to get that kind of loyalty. It's not like he threw Jason Taylor on IR for a questionable injury.
