Merged3x: Practice squad set....7 guys\1spot left\PS & other ramblings

Dolphins Sign 7 to Practice Squad

www.miamidolphins.com

The Miami Dolphins today signed the following seven players to the practice squad: safety Deandre Eiland, wide receivers Fred Gibson and Maurice Mann, running back Kay-Jay Harris, tight end Alex Holmes, punter Donnie Jones and tackle Orrin Thompson. Also on Monday, the team released safety Chris Akins off its injured reserve list.

No problem - didn't see it posted this morning. Dudeman sure is on the ball. Merged.

Practice Squad and Other Ramblings

First off, can someone help me with who made the practice squad. I can't seem to find that information anywhere. Did Brock Berlin or KJ Harris make it? The only one I heard about was Gibson, who I think has potential.

I was just thinking about Lamar Gordon. At the time he was brought in I have to admit I thought it was a pretty good trade. Although I questioned giving up a #3 for him, he looked awfully good in St. Louis and I thought he could solve our running back problems. Now, he's not even on the team. The sad part, though, is what Miami could have done with a 3rd round pick. Think Kyle Orton could have looked good there?

Going one step further, it now looks like AJ Feeley was a mistake. I hate to look back, but Spiellman obviously panicked with that trade. Frye or Walters might not have been bad picks there, or a number of decent offensive linemen who were available. Heck, Webster (a player Saban wanted) would have been there for the taking.

I hate to look back, but those are depressing moves and show why Wannestedt and Spielman are no longer in the league.

According the miamidolphins.com, the following players are on the practice squad:

Eiland, Deandre (S)
Gibson, Fred (WR)
Harris, Kay-Jay (RB)
Holmes, Alex (TE)
Jones, Donnie (P)
Mann, Maurice (WR)
Thompson, Orrin (OL)

See http://www.miamidolphins.com/lockerroom/depthchart/depthchart.asp

Right now, Brock is not on the PS.

Thanks. I should have thought to look there. Sounds like some pretty good players who might help in a year. I think Jones could replace Turk next year and Harris might have a spot since it's unlikely Williams will be with the team next year. Gibson is intriguing and Mann looked pretty good. Of course, I'm sure this squad will chance during the course of the season.

"Panic" is not the PRECISE word for the Feeley trade, but I will say that when they pulled the trigger on it there was a bit of a musical chairs feeling going on that if the Dolphins didn't secure their QB option soon, they would end up screwing the pooch just like they did a year earlier when they got left holding the bag with Wayne Gandy and then couldn't trade their way up into round 1 to get one of the offensive tackles Foster, Harris, or Steinbach (none of whom, btw, have lived up to their billing so far).

If you remember prior to the Feeley thing, there ended up being some QB options that came available after we pulled the trigger on the Feeley trade. I believe Kurt Warner was one, Kerry Collins was another. People at the time DID say that Miami pulled the trigger too soon, were worried they'd be the only one left standing without a chair once again, etc.

The Gordon and Booker trades, THOSE were pure panic. So was the 4th rounder to move up one spot to take Vernon Carey. Pure panic.

It's funny, Rick Spielman did all this analysis to try and come up with the next Jake Delhomme or Tom Brady, and he had a pool of guys he did it on to try and figure this out and Feeley came up as the number one. But, obviously his system was flawed, because Billy Volek was also in that pool and was a free agent last year and WOULD have signed with us had we told him he could compete for the starting job, and we would not have had to give up a 2nd round pick for him...and yet the system said Feeley. But, I guess Rick Spielman wasn't all that smart a guy anyway...
