Miami Dolphins 4th round selection- Walt Aikens CB

Moving on i'm not sold on any of our corners outside of Grimes so this was a need pick.

Yea no kidding. The 2 rookies from last year . . . I mean really who in the hell knows. Finnegan has been oft injured and garbage since these injuries. We lost Patterson, Carroll and Stanford. I will say Jimmy Wilson took steps up last year manning the nickel/slot so that's a positive but yea for the most part our CB group is an enigma. I don't know how anybody can be upset with DB pick right now.

Grimes was a critical, I mean critical resign.

Harsh much? He was talking about last years picks with Jeff Ireland regarding Jamar Taylor and Will Davis (he was being nice as he didn't mention Dallas Thomas).

I'm so sick of the bitching and over scrutiny of every pick before anyone sees them on the field. And just because the Dolphins drafted a corner in the fourth round this year it does not mean it is any reflection of what the team feels about the guys they drafted last year. You need a lot of corners in this league and the more competition you have at the position the better.

Aikens earned the pick with a great Senior Bowl performance and a workout for MIA.

Go google Senior Bowl and Aikens.

Then watch the film. Tall long strider who is not afraid to tackle.

MIA apparently put in a lot of work on small school standouts.

Let me tell you something . . . I watched Nolan Carroll walk from off the sidelines, after getting his ribs pounded during the game, back on the field holding his ribs and continuing to try to play. You mean to tell me we have 2 young highly drafted CBs on the sidelines, both healthy and active at the time, and we trot the very average (some would say below average) Nolan Carroll back out there with an injury?

Look, nobody is giving up on Davis or Taylor, but nobody should feel confident in either of their abilities right now. I mean we signed a guy from the 49ers practice squad late in the season who got key action in games before our own highly drafted rookies. CB is a nervous position on this team and I'm glad we are addressing it.

I hope he has learned his lesson and becomes a good character guy, because I like the player. This draft is chocked full of WR's and CB's and those two guys are my favorite picks of this draft so far. He has overall athleticism, size, length, decent speed (ran 4.49 which seems more accurate from his film). The raw materials are there, and he can play off man. Now it's up to us to mold the clay.

Credibility: :tubes:

:chuckle:

Haha but really, a Gator fan sticking up for an FSU player is about as much of a credibility boost as you can get. Clearly hes not letting his biases conflict with his thoughts.

Also read he lead his team in tackles at CB. At worst probably a great special teams guy and insurance in case last years rookies or Finnegan don't work out.

Exactly. I think we feel the same way but my initial post was in response to someone who made it sound like the Dolphins had given up on their picks from last year. I didn't like Davis but Taylor was hurt most of the season. Even if the team loved what they saw from those two guys it would not preclude them from taking another db this year.

Not a huge fan. This is the first pick that I can't get behind and am not sure of the purpose. I hope looking deeper will make me feel warm and fuzzy

Looking deeper im really excited about his potential on special teams. With the way he seems to enjoy contact, his speed, and how he can lower his hips into a hit he will certainly have a good home there. Im not sold that any rookie CB can be a good starter one day one so ill leave my coverage judgement for year 2

He was charged with possession of stolen property because he bought a computer off another student who apparantely stole that computer.

You don't even know the guy and you are calling him a scumbag.

I said stealing a laptop is a scumbag move. Thank you for bringing this up. I hope that it's the case that he didn't steal it.

Now, onto everyone else's unbelievable responses:

Dude, worried about a laptop? Scumbag? You kidding me man. Did you go to college? The crap I used to pull. Makes animal house laughable. I don't think this makes him a bad dude.

Yes, stealing a laptop or anything makes you a scumbag. Did I go to college? Yes, and I didn't go to goof off like you did, but what does that have to do with anything? Don't pull a straw man just because I have better scruples than you.

I've edited my post to make it sound less like I was defending Rapeis Winston. That is not the case. My point was: it doesn't matter what you steal. It's a scumbag move and stealing from another student makes you a complete and utter scumbag.

If kdawg is right, I'm glad that Aikens didn't steal the laptop. But that also puts into question why he was dismissed from the team.
