Given the way this staff treated Cam Smith, I’m not looking to draft a corner in Round 1. We need an immediate contributor. If there is a good pass rush option at 21, that’s where I’m going. Particularly if we don’t re-sign AVG. Realistically, though, there are holes at every level of this roster, so BPA is the way to go.

I am simply not willing to buy the idea that Cam Smith can’t play. I think he ends up with a large role in 2024.

https://www.miamidolphins.com/team/front-office-roster/brandon-shore Once again a good time to remind everyone that it's not like Grier just goes and finds a shiny toy and flops down Steve Ross' Centurion AMEX and says "I'll take it!". Brandon Shore - "He also serves as the team's lead negotiator for player contracts, manages the salary cap and club compliance with the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, and acts as the organization's liaison on labor relations and league matters." It's a collaborative effort, coach, GM (and, thankfully Marvin Allen and Reggie McKenzie) owner, Brandon Shore , Tom Garfinkel- and by no means is Grier allowed to act like a drunken sailor on shore leave with US dollars falling out of his pockets looking for Saigon whores.

I would say, at the end of the day, Grier has proven himself a skilled trader, respected in league circles, and if there is a whale to be hunted, he's probably your first call as a fellow GM. These endless threads placing the mantle of responsibility squarely upon Chris Grier for the salary cap are misguided. And actually, the "journalist" who wrote the article cited above, wrote this very phrase in an article from March of '23 - "All of this adds up to a busy few weeks for Chris Grier and especially Brandon Shore who handles most of the contract negotiations and salary cap." Blame and credit Grier as you will for all levels of personnel decisions, he has input on salary cap matters for sure, but the cap is most certainly NOT his exclusive domain.

Good article on how to fix our cap hell with itemized breakdown of savings.....

What am I missing? The link is to a mock draft article. I absolutely hate the format that site employs with the "next, next, next" and a million ads approach.

Have some consistency and integrity FFS.

Would be an abomination.
Well, Cam Smith is unfortunately an unknown. Kohou is better suited for the slot. Corner is an area where you've got to be strong to compete.

Miami has a lot of needs. It's going to be difficult. If Grier can trade down a couple of times maybe the Dolphins can add a 3rd and 4th rounder, or something along those lines.

that's the issue with Grier. If we waste another pick on a cb who can't see the field on gameday we are chasing our tails. First Tindall then Smith, who will be that wasted pick this year?

And thank all that is holy that McDaniel stuck to his guns on Achane, Grier woulda just waved bye-bye as he sprinted on by when they got a second chance to snag him. Hopefully Coach gets a chance to do some more grocery shopping going forward.

With so few picks he has to be careful, though.

Moving back a few spots can be fine if you get your target player anyway, or have multiple targets who graded virtually equal.

On the other hand, moving back also decreases the likelihood of getting an immediate impact player overall. Not that it can't happen, just that the "odds" are against, particularly when player evaluations haven't exactly been our strong suit, historically.

I get that many like having a boatload of picks. It makes the draft a lot more interesting. Just not sure you come out ahead unless you are trading for future picks, which doesn't help us next year.

Grier is a good wheeler dealer though. He might come up with a move that works out.

I don't see a world where we don't trade down given the turnover we're about to face.

It obviously takes 2 to tango & if there are no takers, it's a situation beyond our control.

But it's difficult for me to read suggestions of drafting anything other than OL early & often. I imagine those of you suggesting a DB or DL/rusher don't buy into Tua being around much longer or even at all.

Here we sit with a QB many have slated to have trouble with pressure, making 2nd reads, & making plays with his feet; a QB proven to be a pro bowler if he can throw from the pocket and we're not interested in upgrading the OL?

If I could have it my way, & only ever get it my way at Burger King, I trade down & take OL round 1 & 2.
