Here’s how quickly best-laid plans can unravel in the National Football League:
As recently as Thursday morning, the Dolphins had a dependable front-runner in their quarterback battle and a talented, veteran receiver helping bring along their unproven young guys.
But by the dawn of a new week, David Garrard had a scar on his knee from a fresh surgery, and Chad Johnson had spent a night in jail.
Now, with Johnson gone (dumped unceremoniously by the team late Sunday night), Garrard sidelined for up to a month and members of his locker room openly critical, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin faces his first real dose of adversity as a rookie NFL coach.
Philbin met with the media Monday for the first time since jettisoning Johnson, and the room was packed. Hovering above his head while he spoke: Two boom microphones, a constant reminder that nearly every sound he makes gets recorded by HBO’s Hard Knocks.

so Dansby and Smith dont like the move... Just wait till its your turn.

I tell ya, the lack of eye contact again in that picture has me concerned. I know many don't think its a big deal but think of it this way: When he interviewed for the job, do you think he was staring at the ground when speaking?

Hopefully it doesn't mean anything but when I've had sit downs with bosses in the past, the good ones were more engaging to convey their message than what I'm seeing with Philbin.

As a first year head coach Philbin has handled himself professionally and demonstrating that he has a plan in place

Looks just like three Ocho peptalk bad body language and lack of eye contract. A lion respects a lion Joe.

Worry about how the team plays on the field...good grief

Jesus. Leave it to Dolphins fans to start up an Eye Contactgate.

Let's wait until the players actually start rebelling before we start diagnosing the causes, shall we?

Interview for a job and "instructing" a player are two completely different things. Even in that picture he brings attention to himself and Dansby...how much more so would that be if he were face-to-face, not looking at practice, talking to Dansby. It would look, to me at least, as if he was laying into him regardless of the volume of his voice. IMO, looking at him directly while telling him whatever it is he's telling him would come across as the coach challenging him in a disrespectful manner and that's the message he would be sending the whole team. I don't think, as a new coach or a veteran coach, that's the tone you want to set especially with a guy that's viewed as a leader in the locker room.

Everyone has their own way of doing things. Some people would rather he stand up on a ladder, look down on the player, scream his head off in a cussing tirade and maybe throw a few things to get his point across and make sure everyone knows not to mess with him. Personally I don't respond to that...I served over 9 years in the Navy and had a lot different officers and division leading petty officers I served under, a lot of different styles. I had to follow orders regardless but guys like Philbin and his style were the guys I put the extra effort into doing my job. Those were the guys I didn't want to let down. To each his own I suppose.

where the hell are u on my thread man? this is exactly the kind of thing im talking about with philbin. that is not the right way to earn respect. he seems to do it with the media too. i dont know if i like it.

He then backed up his warning. I don't get the problem. Cause he doesn't stare down pe
