[h=2]Jeff Ireland’s seat isn’t hot. It is scorching.:chuckle:[/h] The Miami Dolphins’ General Manager saved himself this offseason by producing a solid draft in 2011, and when most of his free agent additions – Matt Moore, Reggie Bush and Kevin Burnett - panned out.
This offseason Ireland needs to him a homerun with a few draft picks to keep disgruntled Dolphins fans from demanding owner Steve Ross offer up his head on a platter the same way Tony Sparano’s tenure ended in Miami.

funny how he dodged the question about 2nd and 3rd round. Also, they keep asking him about if he knows what the needs are.
reporter- Do you know what the needs are?
Ireland- Yes, the same they've been since I came here 5 years ago. But I'm going to stick to our board.....lol

Ozzy rules!!

How did he skirt it? He answered it directly.

Yeah, I have little faith that Ireland will do the correct thing. Look out baby, here comes our Pro Bowl punter.

No he didn't. He wanted to talk about guys he drafted later(Clay, Wilson)and then he said Turner is still in the NFL as if that means that was a hit when he knows that was a missed. And no, I don't expect him to hit on every pick.

Ozzy rules!!

On how do you evaluate your draft history in Miami) – “Well, it’s a team effort. Bill (Parcells) and I conducted a couple drafts together. I’ve conducted one here solely by myself with my team upstairs obviously. Certainly, I’m not responsible for all of it. When you look back and you made some good picks. Depends on how you look at it. If you look at the future or past of the draft and you say 50-55% and you say if you can be 50% in the draft over a period of time, you’ve done pretty good. I think where we were when we started to where we are now we’ve done a pretty good job of adding some talent to this football team. Certainly I’m not saying I hit on every single one because I haven’t. There’s no doubt about that. Some I have taken some risk on and hit. And some I have taken some risk on and didn’t work out so good, but that’s just part of the draft.”

I like how he makes sure it's known that he AND Bill did drafts together, and he did one by himself. And he says, "Certainly I'm not responsible for all of it. Haha! I know there's double meaning there, but it's still funny..

Um you mean because it's true.

JI needs the best draft of his career here. Or it's Davy Jones' locker for him..

I still have faith in his drafting skills and his scouting skills. Let's see what this years draft class looks like.

I would be completely shocked if he did the right thing. His draft style is smack out of Bill Parcells book. Draft Safe..... Safe gets you..... Well....... Look at where we are now.

But he has every opportunity to do the right thing. Now whether he will ...

I think Ireland's primary shortcoming has been identifying the correct systems. A lot of that blame can be placed on Parcells - if not all of it. But we saw how the D turned around once we got a good DC. Ireland has done a pretty good job at getting people who fit the systems in place; he works with his coaches. I think that he'll work well with Philbin. I'm not someone to say Ireland has been great; that's a difficult argument to make. But I think he has a good shot at saving his job and getting this organization going. If he works as well with Philbin, Sherman, and Coyle as he did with Nolan (the only coach we've had who belongs in today's NFL), I think we'll get things going sooner than many think. Cautiously optimistic.

Scared he thinks OL and DL are deep positions.

And than fans think both lines arent that great. But if he drafts linemen, people will still want his head.

He is in a no win situation with fans really.

He could draft 3 future all pro o line/interior d line in the next draft or two, & still be called a failure. At the end of the day it's up to the individual player who is drafted to put in 100% at all times. If the player doesn't do this, then it's the GM's fault!

I cant see him stuffing up this draft. We still have too many needs in just about every spot.
