Miami Herald: McCoy to interview early this week (Some other info too)

Like I said Ross better watch his next step very closely or there maybe a hand full of fans in the stadium when the season starts.

#1 rushing offense in the NFL by almost 200 total yards over the Houston Texans. They had 5 games where they ran for more than 200 yards and 9 games where they ran for more than 150 yards. To do that with no passing threat at all and without a full understanding of all the intracacies of the option offense, that is impressive.

well when you run the ball 40 times a game with a gimmick offense, and a rushing QB, your bound to get a lot of yards. and to only have 152 passing ypg (2nd worst to the offensive impaired jags) is beyond HORRIBLE

Well having the best running qb in the league probably has alot more to do with them leading the league than anything else.

Denver rN something different that took teams a little while to catch up with. When we rolled out the Wildcat I think every play was a touchdown, but teams eventually caught up to it.

But the option doesn't work in the NFL and a running quarterback will not have success.

Here's a little test for you.

2005 offensive rankings:
Scoring: 30th (239 points)
Total Yards: 32nd (3,587 yards)
Passing Yards: 32nd (1,898 yards)
Rushing Yards: 17th (1,689 yards)
Yards Per Play: 32nd (4.1 YPP)
Net Passing Yards Per Attempt: 32nd (4.3 NY/A)
Rushing Yards Per Attempt: 19th (3.9 YPA)
Passer Rating: 32nd (53.6)
TD Passes: 32nd (8 TDs)
INTs Thrown: 27th (21 INTs)

What coach coached that offense? Would you hire him as your head coach?

That coach was Mike McCarthy, and he was named the Packers head coach shortly after that season.

Here is you a contrast.

Scoring: 1st (492 points)
Total Yards: 4th (5,840 yards)
Passing Yards: 16th (3,262 yards)
Rushing Yards: 2nd (2,578 yards)
Yards Per Play: 4th (5.7 YPP)
Net Yards Per Attempt: 6th (6.6 NY/A)
Yards Per Rush: 4th (4.9 YPA)
Passer Rating: 5th (93.0)
TD Passes: 8th (24 TDs)
INTs: 2nd (9 INTs)

The coordinator for that offense was Cam Cameron.

Now, who is the better head coach, Mike McCarthy or Cam Cameron? Did their ability to coordinate an offense have any effect on their ability to be a head coach?

i personally think zimmer is what we need.

tough coach with balls.

that seems to be a recipe for success in the NFL right now. the HC's job is still to motivate and get guys used the right way. X's and O's are for coordinators and vice versa. this is why i like Zimmer for the job. no B.S. just a firey personality with enough respect to get a staff together.

im not COMPLETLY sold on the OC's Philbin and Carmichael b/c they come off childress-like to me alot. very much X and O's, but i dont see a personality with that fire etc. that is important to a HC, but not necessarily an OC.

i dont think jeff and carl would choose someone without that HC personality though, so if they do choose one of those guys i will give it a chance.

The double standards are amusing around here sometimes. Those saying forget Philbin and CarMichael because they are in a good situation with great QBs and lots of weapons, then we hear forget McCoy, he couldn't do anything with Orton and near no talent as far as big weapons, and he had to run the option with Tebow. Which is it? Truth is, lots of factors go into a coaches success or failure, it's a team game and no one coach or player can do it all.

Out of the canidates that have been interviewed I would much rather have Zimmer.

so we should hire the worst oc is your point lol im just saying being successful as a coordinatator shows your job performance possibly an indicator of future success

And I'm saying your ability to be a leader, motivate, adapt, and get the most out of your players is a better indicator of your ability to be a head coach than how your players execute the offense or defense you are calling.

Mike McCoy is interesting because he was a quarterback at Utah for Ron McBride. Just being a starting quarterback gives the idea that he may have some leadership ability. I'd at least be interested in talking to him to get a feel for him.

so mccoy whose been with the panthers and jake delhomme previously is going to come and interview to be our hc just great... while the real respected zimmer is going to tampa tomorrow just unreal.

Why are we even considering McCoy? I definitely dont like this.

tebow prayed for him to interview for a hc gig and well its tebow what he wants happens usually.
