Miami @ NO 10/30/05

from what i hear the san antonio spurs stadium will host the NO Saint games,

I agree that there can't possibly be any football played in New Orleans this season. I just got done reading some articles on CNN.com... according to their sources/experts, the city will take at bare minimum a month to drain. Elecrticity will not be back on for at least two months. I-10 is underwater in some places, but the more pressing concern is that parts of it are completely destroyed; the concrete and asphalt are gone. Not damaged, not potholed, but gone.

Assuming all of this information is correct, even if the city did drain in a month and electricity was back on in two months, there's no way the roads would be repaired anytime soon. Remember how long the debris stayed at ground zero from 9/11? Imagine that across an entire city. That will take months to clean up.

There's no way the Saints will play at home this year, and even if they could, no one would be there to see it. I imagine that the city's population, even when finally rebuilt, will be significantly less than it was before. It would take a major revitalization campaign to keep the Saints in New Orleans now. LA may finally have their team.

will you guys please stop using the term shallow in reference to anything to do with NO-it's too sick a joke to even think of-also, not to be political but we sure could use an extra 100,000 soldiers and national guardsmen right now

I bet Tom Benson (the Saints owner and San Antonio resident) will work a deal to get into the Alamodome (the Spurs arena is the SBC Center). Hell, San Antonio should be jumping at the chance to host the Saints games since the only action that the dome sees is concerts, and the occasional RV and boat show since the Spurs moved out.

Having said that, I highly doubt the dome in NO will be ready by the time the Phins play the Saints. In fact, I doubt if it will be ready by this time next year. From everything I have read, it is probably going to take months just to get the levies plugged and repaired......until then, water just keeps flooding in. The Gov of LA has delcared a mandatory evacuation of the ENTIRE city. It is going to be quite a long time before New Orleans is back on its feet I am afraid. This truely a sad situation. I hope that the residents can recover and rebuild.

I am guessing that the LA National Guard, Army Reserves and the 4 US Navy ships (one being the USS Comfort Naval Hospital ship) that were sent there aren't quite enough. Let's not forget the Army Corps of Engineers that are planning and working on the levies. It would sure help if degenerates weren't looting while all of those personell are focusing their efforts on saving survivors that are still stranded.

new orleans airport

could be down for fins game, i would plan ahead. some news services are saying several months until up and running.

maybe we'll be calling them the San Antonio Saints by next year. after such a costly disaster, even if they rebuild the city, i don't think any of the people of New Orleans would be willing to spend their money on something unimportant like football games for the next few years

If the team moves, it's a lock that it would move to LA.

If they play in San Antonio, it wont be at the SBC Center because by mid football season, the spurs will be beginning their season. Also, it wont be the Astrodome because thats where they are moving all of the refugies from the Superdome until at least December. I do think they will wind up playing in San Antonio, but just not at the SBC Center. Bottom line, the Saints arent playing at their real home this year.

The NFL doesn't want to contend with having 33 teams if it doesn't have to. They'd prefer to see a team move but are apparently willing to add a new team as a last resort.
