Miami to interview George Paton of the Vikings for GM job

Gaine has worked under Ireland but is not Ireland.

I trust Gaine just a tad more because A.) it hasn't been more than a decade that he has been Ireland's number two, and B) for as much as people hate Ireland, he was a far more competent GM than Spielman.

trying to think how the vikings drafts have gone of late...i know they've had lots of high picks with what i think would be considered as moderate success...

With 3 first rounders last year, they were bound to hit on at least one, and they did with Cordarelle Patterson

Are you totally dismissing the possibility that this may be the case? I'm not saying it is, but your post seems to indicate that you feel it is so outside the realm of what's possible that it should be mocked.
Can you show me one NFL executive who has declined the job because of this media driven spectacle over GM responsibilities, Aponte, Philbin, Ross or any combination of them? The over reaction of this process in both the media and within the fan base is pathetic. Perhaps everyone should wait until the new GM is selected before melting down.

It gets worse each day and our beloved franchise is not getting any better. I will always be a fins fan I just hope I see 1 SB win in my lifetime and hope we get this organization by to the glory days

This interview aside, I still think we have a shot at landing a solid GM. I like pretty much everybody else they've been rumored to be interested in except this guy. Whoever is hired basically gets a one year free pass. If we fail next year, it will be on Philbin and the new GM will get to bring in his own coach. Further, he has a good young QB who hasn't yet reached his ceiling, but he isn't stuck with him if he doesn't improve next year.

There are several guys that I like that have been interviewed but I am confused on Xanders. The cover 32 blog is saying he was interviewed yesterday but I though I read an article in the Herald that no interviews were conducted. Xanders and Licht perk the most interest for me but you're right, there really isn't a bad guy in the bunch. I don't know anything at all about Paton so I can't comment.

No surprise that Gamble and the other 2 turned us down. The whining in here over that and the OC search is really pushing me to leave this place for a while. Maybe I am getting to old and can't deal with the oh woe is me mentality I see all over this board. I really have little use for people who go beyond the negative outlook into a mental shortcoming mode of everyone feel sorry for me just because...........

You know how critical I am of this team, as you are, when they deserve it but damn, you'd think people would let the process play out before losing their minds.

No, and I didn't say any did so I'm not sure why you'd ask me that. I'm simply accepting that the possibility exists. But I'm not sure we'd be immediately privy to that information had that happened. So just because we haven't heard about it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. My question to you was whether you're totally dismissing the possibility. We're getting lots of conflicting media reports. Discerning the actual truth from them is difficult, if not impossible. If you're laying claim to really knowing what's going on, I'm calling BS. And if you're not, you're speculating as to what's going on just like the rest of us.

You missed my point. I am not getting caught up in the media speculation instead focusing on what is going on. Facts are they are doing a thorough search. They have interviewed 6 guys, have 2 more they would like to and had 4 turn them down. Everything beyond that is speculation but, some folks spin it as gospel. I don't know any more than the 12 candidates and the bios I have read on them.

Personally, I don't care what the media says because if you haven't learned by now, the amount of misinformation in coaching or GM searches is mind boggling. Additionally, you have members of the media with agenda driven bias that love to stir the pot and throw fuel on a fire to get clicks on their web page because clicks mean money.

To answer your question about dismissing the possibility my response is no. But I am not running down the street with my hair on fire and until there is something concrete to indicate that possibility is a probability, I won't speculate on it.

Negative outlooks come with having a perennial mediocre (at best) team. I'm not sure why people are surprised by this. Further, I'm not sure why people get so upset about negative views. Do you expect only positive views? I've seen forums like that and they ****ing blow. Boring as hell.

Look, if you want a positive thread, start one! I don't get the complaining about it, but not doing anything about it, I really don't.

Yup. If some of these "great" candidates see it any other way then they are morons and we didn't want them anyway. The beauty of our situation is some of the morons may be weeding themselves out.

I'm of the mindset that as long as the guy is not a moron a good GM can come from anywhere, even if he is an already failed GM. For one thing there is a fair amount of luck involved in picking players, especially the QB position at which most GMs only get one crack at. For another people can learn and grow from those failures which is why any new GM hire will get a clean slate for me, even guys like Tannenbaum [STRIKE]and Mangini.[/STRIKE] (nah, **** Mangini)
