mike pouncey...panthers game tale of the tape

i would normally say thats pounceys man amigo but incog has zero contact with anyone on that play after the snap is way out front and there's nothing to block on the perimeter of the field...incog if he had any awareness at all would see that lb flowing up from the inside and cut him and let pouncey who's late getting over and carey head downfield to make a block...instead incog lets that guy just come freely up between him and pouncey and bush gets blown up...its called awareness you see there's nothing for you to make contact with on the outside but there's a lb coming up from the inside unimpeded you go take him out...not just stand there with a "who...me???" look on your face...which incog is famous for

as for the last part about his brother maurkice was the more nfl ready of the two last year and i agree and said even before the draft this year the better center prospect...maurkice is stronger at the poa than mike but i think mikes the better athlete of the two and better move player which is why i think mike would make an outstanding left guard...

Not his job dude. First rule of example is you do you job go to your assignment. His assignment was anyone coming far outside. This is completely umpartial and from experience that is more then you forgot. Why do you think he stopped and looked backwards ? Because Pouncey was not out where he was supposed to be. Like I said many times, Pouncey is a rook and not many teams ask the center to pull far out to his left and catch a LBer. Digest it, learn and realize what was really going on, many on this board, " experts' included, do not know that.

Let you in on a little tidbit. Pouncey is currently calling the set ups/assignments, per what is called out by Incognito and Columbo, yes, Columbo, then he re-iterates whaty they call. They can basically call, ' BONGO BONG BEAN HEAD " and Pouncey would call out BONGO BONGO BEANHEAD. Its more then you can fathom or sincerely understand. Someday I will allow you to peer into the secrets, but, not now.

I see the " board experts ' are confering on an answer. Do not blame them, what I posted is pure truth of the actual blocking scheme, of which, none of them have a clue of.

Ryan Mallett has nothing to do with this. That argument seems like a crutch for a weak mind.

yet you keep bringing up his draft status. not weak mind. just like football players. ted ginn is not a football player. oh yeah, ted ginn has nothing to do with this.

anyhoo, i like our new center, you apparently will never come to grasp with it.

oh and just a reminder. You said Jake Long is not a Left Tackle. weak mind? i think not. my man is to the left of this. that is what i call a football player.

This is not meant to be offensive to anyone but I think this might be an issue of low standards.

24 of 27 pass plays is 89%. 15 of 19 run plays is 79%. Altogether that's 85%. That's not really that great, especially not against Sione Fua the rookie 3rd rounder.

The most concerning things were:

A) The consistency of his failures in certain situations (e.g. goal line), and
B) The consistency with which his best plays and best attributes (getting out into space) went unseen and/or unrewarded due to the insufficient blocking around him.

We're not just grading on the basis of "for a rookie" here. He's a starter. He's the 1st round pick. He's the guy that the Dolphins took at #15 overall when they could have taken any number of other guys, such as Mark Ingram. That forces you to assess his impact on the team relative to others. I raised the question when he was drafted...how often is he going to be show great things that Joe Berger did not or could not show, that ALSO impact the success of a play? In other words, how much impact is he going to have above a Joe Berger? Everyone just naturally assumes the guy is going to be better than Berger, be more impactful. But that's not what I saw the other night. I saw a guy who is better than Berger in space and out in the second level, but whose talents in that area were wasted by bad blocking from his fellow lineman, and I saw a guy who didn't have near the strength at the point of attack that Berger had, especially in those short yardage and red zone plays. So his weaknesses relative to Berger got exposed, while his strengths relative to Berger got drowned.

And that is a concern.

It all comes clear. CK is really Nick Saban!

lol.

Screw that, if Henne develops into a good QB this year, and we have any of those top notch LBs (especially Vontez Burfict) staring us in the face, you take them Dansby and Burnett be damned. Burfict is the best LB prospect since Willis, and might be a better prospect than him

Burfict isn't in Patrick Willis' category. Burfict is more in the Maualuga category than the Willis category. Meaning, a linebacker who's reputation is built a lot off of "big" hits on youtube highlight clips by being allowed to roam and play undisciplined.

Burfict is going to have issues playing within a system in the NFL. I think he's going to experience difficulty in the NFL in a system that requires: A) Diagnose B) Read-and-react C.) Wrap up

He's also a living, breathing, walking, talking unsportsmanlike conduct penalty... and he's cost his team a game before by losing his head. He's easily manipulated and loses control. Unless he matures from the neck up and is able to display a level head, he'll be the type of linebacker that gets exploited at the next level.

I don't think he's the best linebacker prospect since Patrick Willis. In fact, I think Rolando McClain was a better prospect than Burfict. Hell, I don't even think Burfict is the best ILB in his own class as a pro prospect, I'd have to give that to Luke Kuechly.... he'll make a better pro than Burfict.

Now, I realize I just made Burfict sound like an undrafted free agent, but that's because I think his hype is so far out of control, much like I did Maualuga, Brandon Spikes, etc.

Burfict is the type of linebacker that I usually see taking a slide by the time draft day rolls around. I don't think he goes in the top 10 (or 11 in Willis' case) the way Rolando McClain and Patrick Willis did.

I like what i've seen of him so far. Loved your analysis, thanks a bunch.

Spikes didn't really have that much hype compared to McClain. If he wasn't so slow he'd have been a top 15 pick, and judging by what he's doing in New England, I'd say he's everything as advertised (a student of the game but not much of an athlete)

I have seen better blocking from a subway turnstyle!

Murtha is actually not as bad as people imagine he is. Is he Jake Long or Carey at the height of his career ? No. But please allow me the knowledge of knowing the team that has a backup OT that good.

Murtha is coming along nicely

great post by OP. i dont care where Pouncey got drafted 15-22 , i think it will prove a solid pick. He looked good....as did Carey and Incognito. cant wait for week 1.....

Brandon Spikes had all the hype after his junior season and heading into his senior season... he was the "consensus" top ILB in the draft, and a 1st round pick anywhere and everywhere you looked. I disagreed..

McClain was just finishing up his sophomore season when all of this was going on, and if you weren't a close follower of the Crimson Tide, it's likely you didn't even know who Rolando McClain was at the time. However, he was a better prospect than Spikes even then in my opinion, and McClain wasn't even draft eligible yet. The thread is still in the draft forum.

The big debate all during McClain's junior season (Spikes senior season) was who the better linebacker was, who was going to get drafted higher, who was a true 3 down linebacker, and who was the fastest. That's when McClain's hype started... I know because I participated in several 8, 10, 12 page threads about it all season and leading up to the draft that are still in the draft forum.

Spikes was a good college linebacker, but I viewed him as more of 2-down linebacker... which is exactly what he is in New England. Guys like that have a role in the NFL, and they always will... but they're not worth 1st round picks.

If I don't think you can play all 3 downs, you're not a 1st round pick to me. Spikes was incredibly hyped.

my analysis doesnt inovlve statistics. 89% of whothefukgivesratsass.

It involves my eyeballs.

BTW, The offensive highlights that someone put up in a thread, check out pouncey on Thomas's TD run. He absolutely mualed his guys with pure power and technique. When pouncey will be best is when we wear teams down in the heat and we have them on the ropes. Pouncey is a stud. Book it.

I also know we did not draft pouncey to be a G. Our biggest prob last year was Center. Every good team needs a good center. So, I dont really care what media says or anyone on here. They dont run the team and they dont really know football cus they prob never played the game.

jared odrick panthers game tale of the tape...

as per request i just got done reviewing every snap jared odrick took in the first half of the panthers game...and considering that the panthers had mostly 3 and outs in that half and the fact that merling and the entire 2nd team d line were in the game for another possession there's not a whole lot of reps to go on...therefore i didn't really keep a tab of snaps just watched him from the snap to the whistle on every play...what i saw pretty much was solid 3-4 end play not anything that wowed me but not anything that i viewed as a negative either...solid...he was matched up with jordan gross a solid tackle in his own right a lot and gross handled him about like i expected a tackle of his caliber would...when odrick did get a one on one pass rush opportunity against the left guard i believe his name is wharton he walked him slowly back into the backfield but newton got rid of the ball well before he would have gotten there...a couple times he was doubled when he tried to rush on the outside and he tried to split it and it went no where pretty much...i saw him show nice quickness to the inside and beat the te clean trying to impede him into the backfield on a running play but the play was designed to go wider to the right so he wasn't in on the tackle...dansby sniffed that play out pretty much at the los...i did like that the lbs were clean to make tackles could run free to the ball weren't impeded much which is a good sign your ends and nose are occupying blockers...

all in all a pretty vanilla look...i didn't see a lot of hand usage and i didn't see us running any stunts or anything to try and get guys free runs at the qb...just straight ahead mano a mano and not much to go on...a few times i thought he was a little slow off the ball at the snap but thats admittedly picky on my part...i thought he pursued the ball well

pretty much the extent of it... definitely think he flashed more in the falcons game

Thanks for the analysis. I think he is going to be a very good player for us. I agree he might not have flashed quite as much, but to me the guy just looks like a football player. I think he will have a very good year this year
