Whatever man. Grimes, Albert and maybe Clay would be the only devastating losses for me. Taylor replacing Finnegan, Miller replacing Moreno, Jordan replacing Vernon, Hartline being replaced by whoever will all have minimal impact on our win/loss line imo. The team will go as far as Tannehill can take them this season, even if we're forced to rely on a lot of backups.

The more low-quality backups you insert into a roster starved for high quality play, the harder it is even on a high-level vet QB to carry a team. See: Big Ben and Eli this year. Both multiple Super Bowl winning QBs that got smashed by mediocre rosters -- especially at key places.

There's a reason why Taylor replacing Finnegan or Hartline being replaced by whomever (as easily as Bess was replaced by Gibson) is not a loss. It's because the starter wasn't all that impact in the first place. Even though consistently starting and always puffed up as great -- radical truth is that they were merely mediocre, not true impact players.

Flood a roster w. those types of players and even the best QB won't carry them to greatness.

There is no real option for a backup that is a good player. Most teams would have this issue though. The problem is we have an oline now with one quality player on it.
 
Nate garner is a serviceable center. Good pass blocker. Pouncey will be back by week 7, at latest.

If you mean below average in servicable I quite agree. He is a solid backup in that he can play multiple positions, just none at a starter's level.
Having him start for six games would assure that our interior will be a major weakness.
 
How does being out translate to all the dates listed in this thread? Week 7? Season?

It's June 24. He'll miss 2-3 weeks of the season. If they want to ease him into things then they'll rest him to the bye and he'll be back week 6.

No team in the league has that, none, not even ONE. Every team names their starters because they are better than their backups. If you think the seahawks could lose Lynch and be the same team with out him, or SF could lose their QB or the donkeys could lose theirs and not miss a beat then you really don't get it. No team in the NFL could lose one of their top two or three players and it not hurt them.

Oh I could have assured you of that before Pouncey went down. Certainly Mike going down doesn't help, but when the closest thing to a starter at OG is Dallas Thomas then you are going to be looking at a major weakness no matter what. I can honestly say I feel much better with Garner at center than I do Shelly at RG.

I'm shooting for the stars and hoping Benton turns the young guys into starters. I'm looking for the 3 Ts across the middle. Thomas, Tyler, and Turner.

Exactly what i was thinking. If not this then i would just bet on either Brenner or Larsen and keep Garner in his usual utility role if there is an injury.

Larsen may not be a popular choice because he was undrafted but many good players can be overlooked in the draft and Center i usually a position that gets overlooked because you only need 1 and 2 max on a team so many top centers can go undrafted, not to mention Brenner is just a year removed from going undrafted himself.

The buzz has some FA options. There are some there that could figure things out quickly. Too bad this happened after mini camps and OTA's.

The more I think about it, the team needs to get a veteran at this point or stick Garner in there. Sam Brenner is not an option IMO nor Kyle Larsen.

Fernando Velasco is my favorite option and fit at this point.

We have lots of good WRs up our sleeve (possibly too many to all fit on the roster), maybe we trade one for a Center? Carolina and Cleveland have got very little in WRs they could be getting desperate.

those teams have starters at C which they aren't trading away, and nothing in terms of depth that would be an upgrade over Nate Garner.
 
I think Dallas Thomas is being completely overlooked and mislabeled as a liability at LG.

He's impressing at camp and taking on the leadership role of the OL. You can't do that simply because you want to do it. You have to be able to prove to the guys in the trenches you're a capable leader. I think his drastic turnaround is not so drastic in the eyes of the guys next to him.

I predict this OL is gonna surprise everyone with their adhesion and toughness as a unit. I get the feeling coaches aren't worried as much as the fans about Pouncey's injury.

JMHO, but I really don't think the impact will be as bad as people think. We've got plenty of time to adjust to this development. And I think Larsen will impress enough to not worry about Pouncey next year. This may turn out to be a complete blessing.
