Mike Pouncey Replacement Options?

Re-sign Richie and start him at C until Pouncey is ready to return. I'm worried about leadership on this line and Richie would help bolster things a bit.

That's hilarious. Lets resign one of the guys that basically helped ruin our season last year because of his idiotic behavior. Making Ricthie a leader in the first place was a mistake.

Its comical reading some of the doomsday posts here. I prefer to wait until TC and preseason before rendering judgement. Every yr around the league there are players at every position who exceed expectations and outplay their draft status.
some of you post your own player analysis as if its an established fact.
Perhaps Larsen surprises the hell out of everyone. Maybe Dallas Thomas has a great camp, ditto for Shelly Smith or even Billy Turner.
If not, you pick up a veteran who is a victim of the annual NFL numbers game.

Maybe we can being Lydon Murtha back to solidify the line lol.
Giving him almost a 2 million tender told me all I needed about our former gm.

I think were a better OL with Pouncey, but I could swear that during the season it was stated he was giving away the snap count in some fashion that I don't recall. I also seem to remember that his replacement did serviceable job and didn't give away the snap count.

I think everyone needs to wait and see what the front office/coaching staff does before jumping off a cliff.

We have no idea what kind of surgery Pouncey had. Was it a simple clean up that only required a scope? If so, Brandon Marshall had the same surgery done in mid-June 2009 and he didn't miss a week. Or, was it a torn labrum, similar to what Percy Harvin had last year where Seattle had to put him on the PUP list?

There is so much about this story that we don't know about and yet people are already throwing this season away. People are even saying that this is just a money grab to protect himself for next season. This has no merit considering he played with kidney stones last year and that the contract isn't actually guaranteed for 2015. Just the teams option is and they can release him at any time if they chose.

I prefer to just wait to see what this FO does in the next week. If they sign an older veteran to a one year deal chances are the surgery was more invasive and Pouncey may have to be put on the PUP. Especially if he takes reps as the #1 center immediately at the beginning of training camp. Now if they sign another player to take his spot on the 90 man roster, who isn't a center or guard, it probably was only a simple scope where they feel he will be ready by week 1 or 2 and will let the young guys/backups handle the job during preseason to give them some much needed reps.

But what do I know? I'm just a fan who looks at each situation rationally and waits for the pertinent information to percolate before forming my opinion.

I don't see anything happening soon. Final cuts to 53 are two months away, although there will be some sooner. We're in a wait and see mode on other positions on the OL as well.

Maybe trade for a real Center?

we have a REAL center. tyler larsen!!

as i mentioned before, he is not some guard they are trying to plug in and hope he gets it [that is, if he ends up being a candidate for the position], but a TRUE center who started for a big school for 3 years. and did it WAY above average. handled EVERYONE at the senior bowl, guys like aaron donald [who mayock said wouldnt be blocked in the game] and all the senior pass rushing DE'S and lb's.

yeah, yeah, college ball. but what else can you go by? there have been many, many rooky centers come in and play very well. like pouncy himself. the jets and browns have centers who came right in and exelled. this is not like losing tanny and hoping brock jensen gets his nfl feet under him.

i will be disappointed if he is not the one. garner is a guy who i have NO IDEA why he is still on the team. he is only average at best and has never been able to lock down any position or earn a starting job, and our "talent" on the line over the past years isnt full of lock down, pro bowl players!! he is the kind of guy i like churning out. he has been here long enough to prove himself and win a job. he hasnt. so, get rid of him and free up a spot for some prospect who shows promise!! stop wasting a spot on him!! i just wont understand if garner is the center candidate at all.

to me, the center position is one that i prefer a player has had a lot of starting experience with. larsen has played the spot most of his football life. there is a lot to do, qb of the line and you have to make a LOT of pre snap decisions and then get the ball hiked and launch into your opponents face and control him within SECONDS!! the right call has to be made before all this. this is a WHOLE LOT for a some guard who has never played the position, or at most, taken some camp snaps, to learn and be able to start. LARSEN has already done it for years. he knows how to play the position and his skill set fits the zbs we run.

brenner? ok at guard, has a little bit of center experience. but NOTHING on the level of center play that larsen has.

unless there is something the coaches know that we are not aware of, i dont see why larsen hasnt already been given the position. i know the coaches probably prefer to have a vet in there with the all the rookies we already have on the line, but, none of the vets have any real, productive experience or work at center. they havnt done it for years like larsen.

i like all the fresh meat we have. i am tired of re treads, other teams mistakes. if at seasons end, we miss the playoffs but the young players have gotten it together and will be an obvious force the next year, i will take it!! i want this team to FINALLY start developing its young talent.

MNPF: excellent post. cant put it any clearer or better. the "he did it for the money" thing is silly as doing this actually hurts his money, not strengthens it. and as i have said over and over, if our line is ONE guy, then we are doomed before it even starts.

dude. you CAN NOT DO THAT here!! i think its even in the board rules and regs. you were doing GREAT before that. :chuckle:
