Mike Sherman, is he good?

Mike Sherman was the OC in Houston for only one season, 2007. That was the season The Texans traded for Matt Shaub and finished 14th in total offense and 12th in scoring offense.

Sherman was the assistant head coach/offensive coach in 2006.

Assistant head coach/offensive coach but not offensive coordinator. Troy Calhoun was the offensive coordinator that year with David Carr at QB.

Sherman was never with the Steelers. :idk:
Your right, I asked my friend if it was Ray Sherman and not Mike Sherman, but he insisted it was Mike Sherman. Alas, it was not . I guess I should have researched it before I wrote that.

No harm no foul. I was about to do the same thing. I was about to talk about his great ground attack while he marched through Atlanta, but alas that was General Sherman, not Mike.

He's the best OC we've had since Scott Linehan and Norv Turner.

i think he is a heck of a coach, but a better oc than head coach. the thing is you never really know what your going to get with coaches. you may think your gonna get a good one but they just dont work out. with phillbin and sherman being perfectionist i think our o will be fine. the bigger question is if we do have success how long will he be our oc?

His offenses in Houston were pretty bad but they were working with David Carr so... I'm not going to judge solely on that

He was OC for one year in Hou where he had Matt Schaub in his first season as a starter which was his worst season but I wouldn't blame Sherman for that.

he's only been an OC 2 seasons:

Sea 1999 where his O ramked 12th in pts and 23rd in yds
in postseason loss offense scored 10 pts
Sea was 10th and 23rd the year before

Hou 2007: 12th Pts, 14th yds
Hou was 28th in both categories the year before

as a HC he ran GB's Os where the stats were much better:

6 seasons in GB averaged 8.8 in pts, 11.1 in yds

year before he was hired GB was 10th in pts, 9th yds
1st year on job GB was 11th pts, 15th yds
last yr in GB they were 22nd in pts, 18th in yds
1st season after Sherman in 2007 GB was4th in pts, 2nd in yds

keep in mind he had a HOF QB in his prime most of those seasons.

In postseason in GB('01-'4, missed '00 & '06) averaged 18.2 PPG

One thing we can all agree on is that Sherman is by far the best OC in the AFC East. No question about it.

Mcdaniels once ran a #1, record setting offense. I would rate him #1, Sherman 2, Gailey 3, Tony 4(since he has never really been an OC)

Josh McDaniels was a failure as a head coach but as an offensive coordinator the dude just has it.

McDaniels? Sure helped that when he was in New England that Tom Brady was his QB and the Patriots offense didn't miss a beat once he left. In St. Louis, McDaniels was in charge of the worst scoring offense in the league last season.

it didn't help Sherman that his only success came w/ Favre? at least Brady had his best season under McDaniels, favre was better before and after Sherman.

All that shows is that an OC can be as good as his players let him. The Pats and Rams offenses couldn't be more opposite.

Sherman's Texans offense was in the top half of the league when he was their OC. If you were starting a football team and had a choice of Mike Sherman or Josh McDaniels to be your OC(never mind the difference in offensive philosophies). Who would you pick?
