Mike Wallace is happy

Why would he need a big increase in catches to be more involved in the passing game? The type of patterns he was asked to run was more indicative of Wallace also becoming a chain mover than just a "one-trick pony". The Steelers offense under Bruce Arians took advantage of Wallace's big play ability while the offense under Todd Haley did not. Haley wanted Wallace to run shorter, quicker, timing based routes in order for Big Ben to get the ball out faster and it took awhile for them to buy into that concept.

Because shorter routes are more common than deep routes and are completed at a higher rate. Therefore Wallace should have had more catches.

What exactly does "more involved in the passing game" mean for a WR if not more catches? They tried to get Wallace more involved but weren't very effective at it? One trick pony.

If you don't think setting career highs every year (except the one year under Todd Haley) in catches and first down receptions doesn't constitute being more involved then I can't help you. If Pittsburgh didn't have other receivers worth a damn then you might have seen a significant jump in catches. As it was, he led the WRs in catches two of the last three seasons he was there.

Like I said, only fans think of Mike Wallace as a one-trick pony. Maybe Mike Sherman did too.

So he had a steady increase until he didn't....

It's clear, as the running game declined, his deep pass opportunities dropped and his YPC dropped. That was the whole point. Tannehill wasn't the sole reason for his drop off in deep ball production. That drop off started when he was in Pitt. In fact, his most productive season in terms of catches came with Tannehill.

13 YPC is not what the Dolphins were expecting when they gave him $60 million. He is just an average WR when he doesn't have a running game to keep the safety occupied.

He had a steady increase until they changed offenses going from Arians to Healy. Wallace was asked to run shorter routes to help move the chains instead of just being the big play threat he was his first two seasons and therefore his yards per catch was going to drop as a result. Why is that so hard to understand?

I agree that 13 YPC was not what the Dolphins were expecting when they signed him but then again they didn't think Tannehill would have such a difficult time throwing the long ball to him. Running game or no running game, Wallace still did what the Dolphins asked him to do and that was get behind the defense on a "9" route. Maybe if they would had better play design some of those deep passes would have been completed.

He had the highest amount of targets of his career, and by a wide margin as a Dolphin. Not including his rookie season he averaged 110 targets as a Steeler and as a Dolphin he was targeted 142 times.

And the drop off in YPC that tracks perfectly with the drop off in the running game is a coincidence? Sorry, but no.
