Mike Wallace says refs don't give our WRs any calls

If Wallace doesn't fight for the ball and draw contact, he is not going to get many calls.

This is what people are taking about:

If he elevates for the ball, there is contact from Grimes and possibly a call.

shouldn't matter if there is contact, if grimes is looking for the ball, and going after it. when the ball is in the air, it belongs to both the WR or DB. Knowing our luck, Wallace would have gotten called PI for interrupting grimes from catching the ball.

If Wallace slows down and elevates for the ball and the DB goes through him for the ball, it will be called. It happens all the time. BTW, it would increase his chances to actually make the catch.

but you are also asking a tiger to change its stripes.

Are you kidding me wallace is open on like every play down field and your telling me you want him to slow down and try to get a pi call? People want wallace to fight for the ball. He doesn't need to be fighting for any balls if u throw it out there. Wallace should be untouched for every td or deep pass thrown. Ur asking him to be someone he's not like a Dez Bryant or calvin Johnson. We wanted what he did in Pittsburgh he wasn't fighting for balls there why would he do it here. Fighting for the ball is like last resort. That shouldn't be something he has to do.

Wallace is the home run guy. The deep threat. The fastest guy on the field. The decoy. The one who defenses have to always pay attention to whether we pass it or not to him. Theres alot of work to be done by him. Leave the possession stuff and ball fighting for guys like matthews clay landry and hartline.

If that's the way you intend to catch deep throws, you are severely decreasing your catch radius, making the toughest throw out there even more difficult...

You'd think that's the way it is but he seems to get tangled up on his deep routes consistently. That's why he didn't catch the one in the Bucs game because the defender was grabbing him.

unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have Dan Marino throwing the ball, so every pass won't be perfect. And I don't care what kind of WR you are, every single WR is taught to go after the ball, whether that's in front of you, behind you, anywhere...go after the ball.

You get calls and the benefit of the doubt by first making plays and making yourself seen.

Bingo!
And this sounds desperate to me. I don't expect much out of Wallace this year, beyond what we saw last year. I'll take what we get but for me he's not a standout receiver with the others outworking him this off season. The gap is closing I think.

The excuses made for Wallace are unbelievable. Why is asking him to jump unreasonable?

Wallace makes it more difficult for two reasons: (1) He is not good at adjusting to the ball in the air. Just watch the play against the Bucs last season. (2) he tries to basket catch everything.

He is asking his QB to throw the ball 30 - 40 yards down field and drop it in a 2 foot by 2 foot space.

he is right.

and what the wallace whiners dont understand is, this isnt just a mike wallace issue. this is something that effects the TEAM not just wallace.

it so funny because if a fan fav like mathews would have said this, we would all be seeing, yeah, he's right! this is bs, glad he is calling them out.

but because its mike wallace [who is stuck with a qb who couldnt find him with a spot light in green house] he just needs to shut up and wait for tanny to learn how to throw beyond 10 yds to slot receivers and not worry about the TEAM getting hosed.

so many, many times a playoff spot is a PI call's difference of going on or going home. the pats have won more important games than you can count because they get the calls. the steelers get the calls. i dont think a peyton manning wr has ever had to worry about not getting the call.

it matters. and not just for mike wallace.

To be fair, NRA, I've been very critical of Wallace and yet I've also been screaming that he is right. As I posted in another thread, teams benefited from an average of 7.7 DPI calls last season. Miami got just three, while the corpses the Patriots trotted out to play WR got what, 14? As did the Broncos.

It is ridiculous.

I wouldn't be as irritated if the attempted passes were different or completion percentages were different. However, Brady and Tannehill had almost identical completion percentages and very similar passes attempted. It's hard to believe that defenses fouled their receivers five times more than ours given very similar schedules. We've been screaming this crap for years, the Pats get very preferential treatment by the refs. Even fans outside the AFC East recognize it.

I understand protecting quarterbacks with tough roughing the passer rules, especially for the stars. However, pass interference is one of the most devastating penalties and the Pats and Broncos dominate it. Consistency is all I ask for, just freaking be consistent!

yes Mike for some reason the league has a conspiracy to keep one team down and that is us Mike. Maybe you should clean the sand out of your mangina so you can find your sack. So tiired of excuses from our highest paid player. He is not even one of the best 12 receivers in the league but is definitely near the top of league leaders in excuses

Did you not watch watch the mid 00's rivalry b/w Pats and Colts? That's how this emphasis came (after the original '78 and '94 changes) about b/c of Patriot defenders mugging Marvin Harrison and co. down field. Now let's just take one step back to last years Super Bowl. The severe emphasis on PI and defensive holding penalties are now being overblown again. Why? Peyton Manning WR's were not getting the calls vs Seattle defenders. Those are two VERY blatant instances where Manning did not receive the PI calls some complain about.

How can you defend Wallace? He doesn't show enough aggression in fighting for the ball in the air. Actually none. He wants the damn thing to drop into his bread basket. He'll never get calls, and shouldn't, being such a pansy down field. Here are some examples.

Anyone who sticks up for that kind of lack of tenacity, simply upholds the same type of "sissy" mentality themselves.
